Plymouth's top 10 restaurant and bar 'could rival the best' (2024)

We're lucky in our beautiful city to have a lot of choices when it comes to eating out. And one venue in particular has been turning heads, rocketing into the TripAdvisor top 10 for Plymouth.

With a view of Plymouth's stunning seafront, the stunning Art Deco-inspired Ocean View Bar and Dining at the Dome is a firm favourite for diners. It seems like they can't get enough of the great food, sensational co*cktails and amazing panoramic ocean views on offer.

On the restaurant, the venue says: "From an exciting range of nibbles to delicious main courses and rich desserts, we cater for all tastes with plenty of vegan and vegetarian options. We believe in keeping it local and use local produce wherever and this includes plenty of locally-caught ocean-fresh fish!"

When it comes to the bar area, they know they've got something special for visitors: "Ocean View’s sumptuous Art Deco interior is the most perfect setting for enjoying a co*cktail. Gaze out at the ocean as you sip a Gin Fizz or Classic Martini, or try our very own signature co*cktail a Drake’s Island Iced Tea."

Ben is "already planning a return visit", he writes, adding: "We had a fantastic dinner at the Dome. The weather was beautiful so we began with a co*cktail outside, then went to our table which had an amazing view of the Plymouth Harbour.

"The restaurant is laid out so there’s plenty of space between tables and quiet enough for a conversation - rare these days! Our server, Corey, was excellent.

"He immediately greeted us with water for the table and explained the menu. I went with his recommendation - the Monkfish Tail - and it was superb, perfectly spiced. My guest had the Sticky Beef Short Rib and was equally happy.

"Corey also guided us to some delicious dessert options which rounded off the evening nicely. I’m looking forward to returning!"

Trip Advisor user Trek643528 praised their own "outstanding evening!". They said: "We went for a special birthday celebration, we booked the private room for 10 people. Everything about the evening was outstanding, the food was amazing, the service was fantastic and we felt well looked after.

"The quality of food was outstanding, it was priced well and I would highly recommend this place. We were there for an 80th birthday, the staff couldn’t have been more pleasant and attentive. Thanks for an awesome evening, will be back!"

Another Corey fan, Teresa J said "Corey made our night!". Her review said: "Altho food was slow, the service from Corey was absolutely amazing and made up for it! He was nonstop happy friendly and super kind. He made our evening! The food was very nice and we had such a lovely time."

If you are in any doubt, Isaac S said that it was "a well-rounded choice for any occasion". He added: "A view, building and general backdrop that could rival the best bars and restaurants in any city. The staff were all beyond helpful and polite and the food was consistently good (puddings were excellent), co*cktails and bar options were exceptional and overall provided a very good dining experience.

"Would be nice to have things like real napkins instead of paper and whilst all the food is very good there is no complexity or fine dining element to its flavours.

"Overall though they strike a balance that would make it as much a great place for a special occasion evening as it is a quick lunch spot. Will return happily to try some of their other offerings."
