Course Overview

The Level 2 Certificate in Gel Nail Enhancements will enable you to gain the necessary practical and theoretical skills in order to provide nail treatments specialising in gel nail enhancements to the general public and to gain employment in the nail industry.

The main skills you will perform are:

• Care of the nails on the hand including hand massage and the application of polish
• Care of the nails on the feet including foot massage and the application of polish
• How to apply, maintain and remove gel nail enhancements
• The design and application of nail art

You will also learn about the structure and functions of the nails and skin, contra-indications to treatment, nail and skin analysis, related health and safety and client care and communication which is essential in order to work and be successful in the industry.

Assessment

You will be assessed through a range of both theory exams and practical assessments and you will need to complete a range of client consultation sheets to evidence your work with clients.

Progression

Once you have achieved the Level 2 Certificate in Gel Nail Enhancements you may progress on to other qualifications at level 2 or 3 for example:

• Level 2 Certificate in Liquid and Powder Enhancements
• Level 3 Diploma in Nail Technology

Or you will be able to apply for Nail Technician roles in a variety of areas including beauty salons, hotels, health clubs, spas, own business or cruise liners.

Course duration and delivery

This is an adult only course and will be delivered on a Tuesday and Thursday evening over 33 weeks, starting in Sept 2025.

Attendance to both sessions is mandatory to pass the course.

You will be required to purchase a nail kit to be able to complete this course.

This information will be given to you at enrolment. Funding is also available to support learners if required.

· 4 GCSEs at grade 3 or above and MUST include maths and English (or equivalent L1 Functional Skills qualifications)- you will need to bring your certificates to enrolment

· A positive reference

· A successful interview with the curriculum team

· An assessment at enrolment may need to take place if the team need further clarification

Evening course

This course is a short, sharp introduction to Barbering services. You will develop skills in club cutting, scissor over comb and the use of clippers and freehand cutting techniques.

Full time

This is the qualification most salons expect for you to work as a stylist. Developing your knowledge using advanced techniques, you will become more experienced and confident. Our commercially equipped Salon 50 is open to the public and allows you to practice these skills, preparing you for employment in the industry.
