SO AMAZING!!! ❤️..I booked our group here. I'm so glad I did. We had 32 people, and everyone had an amazing time. It went smoothly. Even the little ones had a blast. We did the upper, and I was nervous for my 11 yr old grandkids. They loved it so much! Our guide was amazing, California girl (Ace). Thank you so much for showing the kids a great time. They talked about it for 2 days.. I wanna thank all the guides.. Everyone loved them.. we're booking our next trip and we've decided to come here again!!!

Decided to do rafting for the first time and I expected an adventure out of this tour don’t get me wrong it was fun and exciting but only when there was those loops/waves. We had our guide she wasn’t very engaging half of the ride you’re just quite looking at your surroundings with other strangers. The waiting place has a food truck and there’s a little shop in case you need sunglasses or water shoes.

Rameci R — Google review

Ya'll have to try this at least once! Because after that you'll want to go again and again! When we went (4.6.24) the water was cold, but that is the only con I can think of. The experience grossly out weighs it being cold. Plus don't like the cold plan for a summer trip. Our guide was very knowledgeable and guided us safely down the river. I believe his name was Josh but I'm bad with names...I highly recommend checking them out! I'm definitely going to be going back!

Joella M — Google review

My family and I recently had the pleasure of experiencing the upper river rafting with SMO Rafting, and it was absolutely amazing! The trip lasted about an hour and a half, and every moment was filled with exhilaration and fun. Despite the pouring rain, the adventure was nothing short of fantastic. The scenery was beautiful, and the thrill of navigating the rapids added to the excitement. Our guide was super nice, making sure we were safe and enjoying ourselves throughout the journey. Her expertise and friendly demeanor made the experience even more memorable.Whether you're a seasoned rafter or a first-timer, I highly recommend SMO Rafting for an unforgettable adventure on the river. It's a perfect activity for families looking to create lasting memories.

We did the Upper & Lower River experiences and both were equally great! Our tour guides were Tom & Slim and they made the day so fun. Staff was very knowledgeable and answered all our questions we had about the Smokies while we were floating down river. Great experience and rapids weren’t anything too crazy, would recommend this experience to families with kids as well.

Abigail F — Google review

I really feel like 5 stars isn’t enough. I would 10/10 recommend this. We did the lower river which worked great for us. Grayson was our guide and did an unbelievable job. We can’t wait to go back and do it again. The lower had a few mediums size rapids which made it fun and not just a float down the river.

Josh E — Google review

We used multiple companies on our trip and we had a few issues, although overall experience was nice. So first of all, it was off season and guides were training. Everyone has to start somewhere but our guide (I think it was one of her first times out) dodged most of the rapids. I appreciate that learning is important but other companies put their trainees in their own raft which doesn’t effect guest experience. I was disappointed that we missed 80% of the rapids due to the guide being hesitant to go through the rapids. We also had to paddle a lot because of the guide steering the boat around the rapids and then we would have to paddle backwards because we would get too close to the boat in front of us. I feel it’s the trainers duty to guide the trainee and make sure they learn how to hit the rapids right and guide the boat. Additionally, you have to pay 2$ for a locker for your car keys and then take your locker key on the river with you. And it’s 10$ if you lose your locker key. Other companies hold your car keys for free at the front desk. Just seems counter intuitive to bring something you don’t want to lose on the river.

What can I say? The entire family had a blast! We did the lower pigeon river rafting because of our 4 year old but all of us had a great time, especially the short swimming portion! Heather was our guide and she was great! Thanks to everyone at SMO for the great experience!Check out the video on our YouTube channel: Fig 5 Adventures!https://youtu.be/gomSwbcrgOY?feature=shared@SMO Yes, Please feel free to share our video.Thank you again! So much fun! My family and I had a blast. Roger’s was our instructor and we loved her!! This trip was for my son’s birthday and she had every single group sing happy birthday to him on the river. Great experience and would definitely recommend!! We will be back again 😀

A very fun experience!! Tia, our tour guide was very friendly and knowledge. Made sure we were all safe. She really seemed to love her job!!

such an amazing experience!! my lady and i did the extreme version of the tour, and it was awesome! we got a smaller boat, so we were able to move quicker and whatnot, making for a super exciting experience! our guide was Gabby, and she did an amazing job! if you can, request her for your tour, and you won’t regret it! thank you SMO for an amazing experience

Party of 4, old folks. Just left the rafting and amazing is nothing compared to the experience, thrill, and fun. Sean was our guide. Funny and professional. Very knowledgeable. Kept us aware of all the tips and tricks to make our experience a safe one. We were even able to swim free for a while. They have bathrooms and places to change clothes, showers too.Highly recommend this company and their amazing workers.

We had a great time with our kids ages 10 and 12. We did the lower river with guide Rev. Dean who was absolutely fantastic!!! Even our friends in another boat said he was the best. He did so many cool tricks and made the experience so memorable. All the staff were friendly and their system is smooth. Great experience!!

Britt B — Google review

Great experience! This was our family's first time rafting and the crew was fantastic. We felt safe the entire time and my daughters can't wait to go again! Our guide, Dan, was helpful and shared fun information about the river with us as we navigated the rapids. The class 4 rapids were a bit too intense for me, but everyone else loved them. The facility was well organized and although they obviously do a large volume of business, it wasn't crowded and the property was clean.

Maegan M — Google review

Decided to take our boys rafting for the first time. This is the perfect river for someone who has never been white water rafting. It has good rapids but nothing that will scare the pants off newbies.

Christopher G — Google review

Took my grandchildren and we had the best time . Our guide Bart was the best guy he made sure that we had fun got wet and enjoyed our trip.

Candice C — Google review

Amazing time with the family! Our guide was Alex, and he was the absolute BEST!! This was my first time doing something like this and I was extremely hesitant, but Alex was wonderful throughout the whole thing and made me feel safe and at ease. Highly recommended 🙌🏻

Erin E — Google review

I chose the Upper River option for my group and I was very happy with the overall experience. It seemed like all the rafting companies launched from the same location and SMO traveled down the river the farthest. The onsite facilities were clean and the staff were very friendly.

David K — Google review

This place is Awesome. Very well organized, extremely professional, every team member was friendly and excited to help. From booking our registration, the guide, the photos, all the way through the end, HUGE 10 Star rating. Plenty of parking, equipment provided and the food truck food was delicious 😋💥💥💥💥💥

This was a really fun experience. The guides were great and it had been raining for several days, so the experience was a great combination of challenging and fun. Would definitely do it again, and I recommend it to others!

Families visiting the area can also enjoy activities like scenic hikes and educational programs at Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Visitors have praised the friendly staff and knowledgeable guides at Raft Outdoor Adventures, who provided informative insights about the Big Pigeon River.

We had a WONDERFUL time on our trip with Raft Outdoor Adventures! We had a large group of 14 (so 2 rafts). Both guides (our guide was Zack) were knowledgeable and made the trip so much fun. They were so accommodating and made us feel welcome and comfortable. Some of us aren't swimmers, but we were reassured that it would still be an exciting and safe adventure. And they were absolutely right. Book them! "GIRLS RAFT PLUS ZACK!"

MeShea J — Google review

We are so happy we went with this group! Our tour guide AJ was fantastic. We did the lower pigeon river, and it was great. The scenery is out of this world, beautiful! And this was a great beginner rafting trip with several really good rapids. Thank you Raft Outdoor Adventures…we can’t wait to come back!

Sandra S — Google review

So much fun! We had a blast even on a colder day. I will suggest renting wet suits if the weather is colder. It helped a lot! Sam was an awesome guide. Very knowledgeable and handled being peppered with questions the entire time. He was also great at adjusting the experience to our group and making us comfortable. My wife was very nervous but ended up having a great time!

Adrian M — Google review

This group was fun, easy going, and super friendly! We love opportunities to support family-owned businesses, and this is one. Our guide Kaylin was great, and we had a blast out on the river doing a few fun tricks, and splashing the other rafts we came with. We felt safe and in good hands the entire trip. Highly recommend!

Rebecca S — Google review

Had a blast rafting the Pigeon and would recommend doing it with Raft Outdoor Adventures. Directions to find the place on their website are very clear since GPS isn’t quite right. Great service at check in - kind and friendly. The guides all seem great. My family rafted with Sam and he was a super cool dude. The group had some rafting experience and the water levels were a little low so the whitewater wasn’t too gnarly, but instead of making our way down the river like any other group, Sam had us surfing and going down rapids backwards - whatever he could do to make it as fun as possible. I’d come back, I’d raft with these guys again, and I’d ask to be in Sam’s raft. Best part of our trip.

Ryan G — Google review

This was the perfect rafting experience for our family with two young children (8 and under) it was a calm rafting experience with some thrills mixed in between- just enough to make the kids happy! We got to swim in the calmer rapids, which was pretty cool too! Our rafting guide, Zach, was awesome. He was great with the families, kids thought he was funny and he was very knowledgeable. This was one of our favorite adventures while visiting Gatlinburg! Would highly recommend this company and we would most definitely raft here again!!

Lisa — Google review

We had a very good experience on our recent rafting tour. Check-in was easy, staff were friendly, and the facilities were clean. It was a busy day on the river, and our guide (and seemingly all the guides in our group) did a good job of ensuring our safety and enjoyment on the rafting adventure.A few things that could have been done better or differently:1)My party was in the back of the bus, which made it nearly impossible to hear one of the guides giving the safety and procedures talk before disembarking at the launch site. With all the windows open, the bustle of the other companies delivering rafts and tourists, and the engine running, those of us in the back could not hear even after it was mentioned we could not hear. I think going through the safety protocol would have benefited everyone if done before we boarded the bus.2)Similarly, we did not review with our guide what expectations were before we got in the raft. It wasn’t until we were aboard that that information was disseminated (though before we were pushed out to float).3)our guide was thorough and encouraging on the river. However, several times throughout, especially approaching or on the rapids, instructions were inconsistent, so the wrong side of the raft was paddling or not (for example: “forward one”, “forward one”, “right side forward one”, “forward one (so both sides pull) right side! I did not call for left!” Thankfully none of this confusion led to any scary or dangerous situations on the river.Overall, it was a wonderful morning and I would recommend to others seeking a river rafting tour.

My family and I had Sarah as our guide and she was amazing. It was our first time rafting and we had a blast. She put us at ease with her knowledge and humor. It's an experience we'll never forget!

My family and I had such a great time at Raft Outdoor Adventures. We are here on vacation for my son’s baseball tournament, 7 of us. We showed up for our 11am booking only to realize I had accidentally booked it for the following week. The front desk staff was so understanding and helpful. They were able to squeeze us in on the next time slot. Eric was our guide, and he was great! Super knowledgeable and experienced which was nice being it was our first time rafting. Would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking to white water raft.

I have nothing but great things to say. The registration process was easy. The office staff was nice and understanding. I was so scared but I am glad I chose to do this. We had a wonderful time with our family. Just as we remembered 14 years ago with our young children. We took the same children with their fiancé 14 years later. Had a wonderful time back to back trips with Jill. Can’t wait to come back again. Hope to See y’all soon.

Very fun and exciting adventure. Have never done this, but staff teach and ensure your safety as best as possible, very funny too. Had a great time with family. Our guide was great and talk to us about rapids and historical facts. Will definitely visit again when in the area. Highly recommend the upper pigeon.

Morales12 — Google review

My trip in 2023 was amazing. I took my three children along for a ride on the lower pigeon river, and we all had a blast. It was adventurous, but me and my kids were able to handle the rapids. At the time they were 12, 10 and 6. Our guide was amazing.

Andrew — Google review

This place is an awesome adventure!! The whole staff is so friendly and knows how to have a good time. Tyler was our guide, and made our adventure both thrilling and safe. His knowledge of the river and clear instructions ensured we were well-prepared and confident. Tyler's calm demeanor and quick thinking during challenging rapids were impressive, as well as his engaging personality and sense of humor added to the fun!! Overall, Tyler made our rafting trip unforgettable, and we highly recommend him!!!

Lindsay W — Google review

The lower river rafting experience was really fun and had beautiful views of the river and mountains. We had a group of 8 that had 4 teens and 4 adults and we all had a great time. My son has sensory difficulties but our guide Tony was very patient and accommodating to his needs. Be aware though of the GPS instructions because it took us on a scary one lane road to get to the place so make sure you ask for directions over the phone from them to avoid that route.

Tania A — Google review

We had the best guide!!!!! Maybe we got lucky but Sam was awesome!! He was hilarious and made our experience extra enjoyable. The other guides on our trip were a lot of fun too. The owner was present as well and very friendly! We loved the trip down the river not too intense but definitely felt the adrenaline rush more than once. If you’re brave enough ride the “bull” at a few of the level 3-4 rapids do it! Don’t hesitate with this company! They are reputable. Sam our tour guide has been with them 9 years. Go for it and have a blast! You’ll get 7 digital pics at the end for $35 if you choose to purchase.

Kristen D — Google review

Great experience all around! Booking was easy and staff answered all of our questions; so attentive and helpful. The ride was absolutely amazing!! We had zero experience and our guide made us feel like some old pros after the first mile. We did the upper trip and the length of the trip was perfect. Our guide was great, and the other guides all were engaging and fun to be around. Our guide, Matt, perfectly provided a calming and humorous ride. He knew when to let us enjoy the beautiful scenery and also added interesting tidbits that enhanced our experience. Loved it, would definitely go again next time I'm in the area.

Experience the thrill of whitewater rafting with "Rafting In the Smokies" on the Pigeon River, just a short drive from Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge, and Maggie Valley. Choose between the upper tour for adventurous rapids or the lower tour for a more family-friendly experience. The guides are praised for their great communication and informative yet fun approach. After your exhilarating ride, take advantage of on-site showers to freshen up.

We did the “upper” rafting tour. Which consists of level 3 & 4 rapids. The upper is for those who like adventure/challenge/adrenaline dumps. The “lower” rafting tour is more suited for families with small children and/or elderly people who are not usually physically active. The lower consists of level 1 & 2 rapids, with more “flat” water. Our rafting guide was Heather and she was great! Just listen to your rafting guide and you will have a fun and safe time! And yes, you will have to row a paddle but they will teach you how.

Our first experience as a family going rafting and the lower river family float was the perfect way to g et our feet wet! Our son LOVED it and was ready for more. We felt completely safe and our guide Allie was amazing!Highly recommend for anyone wanting an adventure without the fear!

Jessica D — Google review

Highly recommend this place! Everyone was so nice and helpful from the very beginning! We booked the 11:00 window but were told to book the later afternoon spots in the future order to ride the really good rapids! We loved our guide Heather and highly recommend you request her! She’s very knowledgeable about the river and funny! We also recommend getting the picture package, totally worth $40!!!

Rafting In The Smokies was an absolutely amazing adventure!!! Our raft guide, Barbie, was super amazing!! She not only provided awesome coaching and instruction (had us out there looking like an Ivy League rowing team...Harvard...Yale let's race) but she also jumped into action with no hesitation when my son fell in. Surely one experience he won't forget for years to come...in my opinion he had the BEST experience out of everyone. He was a little shaken up at first, but later (after lunch lmao) found the courage to jump in during the swimming parts of our rafting adventure!! The high tides (smooth ride), low tides (bumpy ride), the wildlife, and the scenery are all worth it!!! And if you are as lucky as my son, you'll fall in at some point and then get pampered like a prince for the remainder of the adventure. Definitely an adventure I'd go on again. Definitely worth it!!

Arthur J — Google review

As someone that can't swim and was terrified the entire time leading up to it, I truly appreciate our guide Elias! His jokes and puns and reassurance made the experience more fun. I felt safe with him as my guide!

Frankie B — Google review

Moss was a great guide. Had a 9 yr old with us and she had a blast. She said it was her favorite part of our week long trip. She got to just sit in the front since the paddle was too big and enjoyed all the dips and splashes. Loved how quick and efficient everything was to get into the water. Grabbed a bunch of souvenirs and quality photos from the experience.

We've gone rafting in the Pigeon River for several years and this year was the best, it was also our first time with 'Rafting in the Smokies'. All the guides get along great, good communication and an informative fun time. Isabella was 10/10 and deserves a raise. 👏 Overall I feel like it was more efficiently ran and a smooth process for checking in/getting back with this company. Bring your water shoes, and a change of clothes. There are also showers here for afterwards!

Crystal C — Google review

Went here with a group of 11 with kids and adults. We first went zip lining and it was great way to have my first zip lining experience. The zip lines are not super long so for first timers is helpful. The workers were informative and attentive. Sean and J1 were our guides and made sure everyone was safe, comfortable and having a good time. We brought lunch and were able to eat at the picnic tables but they do have food places around. Our second activity was the lower level rafting, due to ages of kids, and it was one of the coolest things I have ever done. You have to paddle on the lower levers rafting but get to relax more down the river. We were able to hop in the water at one point and float down the river with the mountains all around us. The Mountain Views were a sight to see. Our guide Jason was the best. He was friendly, informative and helped us be the first boat to make it to the pick up spot. He also was able to lift me out of the water and back into the boat which I was worried I wouldn’t make it back in. He was able to answer all our questions and made the trip enjoyable. The youngest kids got to sit in the front of the boat and enjoy the ride while the rest of us paddled. You need water shoes to participate and will be putting on a helmet and life vest. Great place to bring the family.

Our family of 11 did the Lower Piegon River Float Trip. Sabrina was the guide for my raft and we couldn't have asked for a better guide. Besides being efficient and knowledgeable, she was very friendly and entertaining. The scenery was also beautiful.

Lots of fun!!! Camping was amazing!! Nice clean showers and kind owners. Fourth of July was incredible with fireworks. Definitely be back!! Very family oriented. Thank you for a fantastic time.

We did the ropes course, zip lining and the lower white water rafting with our group. Overall the guides were amazing and made it so much fun. I don’t think we would do the ropes course again but zip lining and white water rafting was a hit! It was our kids first time doing both (they are 12,10, and 7) and they absolutely loved it. We can’t wait to go back and try the upper river! Definitely recommend

We had an amazing experience with Rafting in the Smokies! The guides were knowledgeable, friendly, and ensured everyone's safety while keeping the adventure fun. The rafting trip down the Pigeon River was thrilling, with just the right mix of rapids and calm stretches to enjoy the stunning scenery. The equipment was top-notch and well-maintained. This is a must-do activity for anyone visiting the Smoky Mountains, and we highly recommend Rafting in the Smokies for an unforgettable outdoor adventure!

Pradeep P — Google review

We had a great trip! Our guide did great and had patience with one nine year old on our trip that didn’t help row. Rapids were great but not over the top. Recommend this trip for sure.

John B — Google review

We had an absolute blast! The office staff was so accommodating to my goof up and we needed to change the time from 11:15 to 12. The tour guide was phenomenal! Everyone we came into contact was so friendly and very funny with lots of funny jokes. Two of us were scared but they were so good with us. Highly recommended! They have showers and change rooms for after the rafting and they take pictures of you that you can purchase. We had so much fun!

What a wonderful experience white water rafting!!! We were lucky enough to get B as our tour guide and she was amazing!!! The place is wonderful, we had a $12 discount and the equipment is very clean!! I can’t rave enough about how wonderful this place is! It’s our second time coming here and we will never go anywhere else! They are funny & show you a great time!!

Such a fun experience for my husband and I, and it was super affordable!! We were walk-ins and they were able to get us in within the hour. Our guide Mason was super funny and knowledgeable, and the scenery was absolutely gorgeous. We highly recommend eating at the Pigeon River Smokehouse right across the street before or after your trip. The brisket sandwich was sooo good!!

Hallie F — Google review

William, you are awesome! Thanks for being our guide. We had a wonderful time. Nice rapids too!It was PACKED on a Saturday morning.

Kevin F — Google review

Everyone there was super nice, friendly, and welcoming. The rope course had different levels for each person’s comfortability. The guides for the rope course made sure to explain the rules and that they could assist throughout the whole course. There is a chance for rope blisters, but the staff had first aid prepared. To avoid blisters, one could ask for some gloves. The guides for the zip lining were very experienced and could show off their tricks on the line. It was cool to see and a great experience!

Terri T — Google review

We had a great time!!! Our zip line crew was great! Lots of fun and good conversation. They communicated well with each other which kept us safe and excited! Lots of hospitality and an overall great experience.Rating was even better! Water was low but had no problem making our way down. Our guide Montana was amazing! She is very knowledgeable and skilled beyond expert. She explained everything we needed to know and things we should watch out for. She shared history about the area and her experiences on the water and it showed! It was a pleasure to have had such a great guide and we’re happy we chose Rafting in the Smokies. We will return next year!

Spas & Wellness

The Hot Springs Resort and Spa is a Swiss-style hotel located in Hot Springs, North Carolina that offers hot mineral water, massage and spa treatments. The resort also has primitive camping sites, suites, and cabin rentals.

I absolutely loved my time here. My husband took me to Hot Springs, NC as a romantic suprise birthday trip and booked us an hour in the Hot Springs bath. We had such a relaxing time and will definitely be back. The hot springs baths are private, quiet and offer picturesque views. The jacuzzi style tub was so relaxing. The hot mineral water left us both feeling calm and rejuvenated. The establishment was very clean, the staff was professional and made us feel very comfortable. There is seating available outside of the jacuzzi tub to take breaks from the hot water and a fan was also included which feels great while you soak. This was a very enjoyable and relaxing experience.

Raven L — Google review

This was a really fun, relaxing way to spend an afternoon. We rented a tub for an hour. It was very clean, the water temperature was hot, but not as hot as a hot tub. It was an 80 degree day, and a large fan in the cabana helped keep the temperature just right. We were allowed to bring food and drink. The cabana provided enough shelter that we felt comfortable changing poolside. The view of the river as we soaked was very relaxing. Other cabanas were far enough away that it felt quite private, didn't hear anyone but ourselves. When the hour was up, attendant politely knocked on the wall and the water began to drain so they could clean it for the next visitors. We also enjoyed walking around the grounds and reading the signs with history of the place.

Ester K — Google review

Great campground. Well maintained. Tell the resort that you are staying in the campground for a discount on a soak in the tub across the road. Definitely do the tub if you have never done it before. Check out Big Pillow for music, food, and craft beer.

Julianna S — Google review

Definitely recommend making a reservation early if you want to go, their time slots fill up fast! We went on a hot summer day and I wasn't sure how that was going to work, but it was still really enjoyable. They have fans in the gazebos to help move the air and keep you comfortable. You rent the gazebo with your own tub with hot mineral springs. No showers, but there is no residual feel from the mineral water like I was afraid of. It's on the river, but there wasn't much river view from ours. However, that was okay because there were also folks tubing on the river. We had a nice amount of privacy. Love the fact they allow you to bring your own drinks and snacks. It was relaxing and really enjoyable! We would recommend!

Came here for the spa and it ruined me for the rest of the day. I haven’t been so relaxed in years. Just soaking for an hour watching the water roll by and hearing the wind in the leaves - it was awesome. You pay for your soak, there is a bathroom for you to change into. You go to the attendant and he will show you to your hot tub, which has just been cleaned and is now hot and ready to go. Bring your own food and drink and just enjoy the healing waters of Hot Springs. The hot tub sits in a small enclosure, open to the river but closed on the other three sides and roofed. They will knock at 10 minutes before your time is up. They will then pull the plug at 5. It’s absolutely wonderful!

Quiet and peaceful experience. Honestly, didn't really know what we were getting when booking, we just thought the mineral spring bath sounded fun. Staff was friendly and the place was very clean. Our tub felt secluded and had a great river view. Tubs are drained and refilled after each use. I'd gladly go back.

David Z — Google review

My wife and I come here about 4 times a year and it’s always been a great experience. The rooms are very private and cozy with a great soundtrack of the river. We never stayed at the hotel being locals but the spa is a must.

Ted J — Google review

It was only for two people, but we did get the seven person tub. Tub number 14. We had a great experience! We do recommend you bring your own towels from your house. The tubs do not come with towels, we purchased in the gift shop, but the towels felt like mesh material and did not help at all. Other than that, everything was great! The tub is not very hot, so it was comfortable for the full hour that we reserved. The view of the creek was also relaxing. I also bought at the gift shop, some massage muscle cream. We use that on our shoulders in the tub, and it actually helped really good with the combo.

We loved cabin # 5. We were told that cabin #8 has the best sunsets. Our day was both rainy and sunny. Will definitely come back. Staff was friendly. Lots of parking. Camping Available too.

Neat experience! We were skeptical at first about going to a hot springs spa during the middle of a 90F summer weather. We were also curious about the healing properties claims so figured we'll give it a try.It was a pleasant overall experience. We chose the deluxe suite and it was very clean relaxing. The view we had was the Creekside view and the weather + water was perfect. I would recommend.

JeongHoon A — Google review

I didn't stay at the spa. I just went for the mineral spring baths. Despite fact that the weather was unexpectedly warm (80°+), the mineral bath was so relaxing. I felt like butter and so relaxed when I came out after soaking for an hour. It was the perfect way to end a day. Slept like a baby that night!

Ann R — Google review

I recently had the most relaxing and rejuvenating experience at the hot springs resort and spa. From the moment I arrived, I was greeted with warm hospitality and a tranquil atmosphere. The hot springs were absolutely amazing and left me feeling completely refreshed.

Phillip W — Google review

We didn't stay here but traveled to the resort from Asheville to use the hot springs tubs. It was wonderful and so relaxing. The resort is in a beautiful natural setting in the mountains . Be sure to read about the history of the springs! Very interesting!

Marisa S — Google review

The location is nice. The tub was fine. The water was warm.. not hot. Maybe it's something to do with the minerals? I expected it to be hot and was disappointed. I've been to hot tubs in the California bay area which had much nicer, all wooden tubs, water so hot you needed to drink water while in the tub, towels, free drinking water in every tub space, and cost ONE THIRD of the price that Hot Springs is charging. It was fine. But it was not worth $90.

Matthew S — Google review

We booked two nights in Suite 1 at the "Resort." This is no resort or spa.Everything is rundown and old. The suites are essentially a hotel room and an old one at that. No spa, no dining, virtually no amenities at all. At $165/night I expected more that a Motel 6. The building was very old which normally would be fine, but it has not been well maintained. It is musty smelling and outdated. Old early 90's decor which is likely the last time they updated anything. There were extension cords hanging from the refrigerator and microwave. Old uncomfortable furniture. The wifi, it is horrible with 1 bar. You loose connection several times in a 5 min period, so forget using your phones or laptops. The air-conditioning did not reach the bedroom which was uncomfortably hot. There are no bedside tables to put phones or essentials, which I guess didn't matter since there where no plugs near the head of the bed.The bed was so uncomfortable, we cut our 2 night stay short after the first night to come home. The in-room hot tub is deceptively marketed to indicate the water comes from the hot springs. It does not. The staff at the front desk said it "contains the same minerals as the springs." So in other words- tap water. The water never got hot and stayed lukewarm and trickles out of the shower head that comes from the tub. We couldn't even contact the hotel staff as the front desk keeps banker's hours. All in all this was a miserable trip for my husband's birthday. We will never be back which is unfortunate because Hot Springs is very quaint and beautiful.

LOVE LOVE LOVE Hot Springs! We bring so many out of town guests here, enjoy it as a family and camp during the summer at the campground!! It is a staple for our family to visit and relax and the little mountain town is charming and unpretentious, which we love!

Arayael E — Google review

A welcome respite for a weary traveler.Gigantic thanks to Lyric and the whole staff at the resort. I was tired, cranky, and completely spent after a long three months on the road. Lyric was incredibly patient and kind, making it easy for me to book not one, but two soaking sessions before heading for home. So grateful for this oasis and the kind staff who took such good care of me. I'll be back. Soon.

Becky B — Google review

I've liked the town Hot Springs the times I've been here. Tried the hot springs for the first time and enjoyed them. But not liking the campground as much. Sites are close together. Some playing music that you can hear across the campground till nearly midnight. For the price of the campground, they should be kept much nicer

Stephen V — Google review

This place desperately needs to be updated. Suite 1 was musty and uncomfortable. The propane was broken which meant we had no hot water for the first night/morning-- they refunded us a night and we got a free 1 hr soak in one of their tubs by the river which was nice. But we ended up checking out early and going home. If I ever come back to the area I would maybe do an hour soak, but I wont stay here again.

E — Google review

The Cascades hot tub was amazing. There is a chiller for your wine, robes to wear, a gas fire pit, mineral shower, (that gets really hot) and of course the hot tub. This is all right beside the river that adds amazing sound to the experience. I loved it and will certainly come back.We didn't stay in a room so I can't review that.

Micky C — Google review

Very relaxing. Hot tubs scattered on grounds and very private. Definitely felt great after soaking. We did not stay in the hotel. We only went for the spa.

Former president Andrew Johnson's homestead, with a visitor center & cemetery with his burial site.

Really well preserved historical site. A must see to learn of the complexities of this President whether you agree or disagree with his politics. Super educational. Tour guide was incredible.

We visited on a Saturday afternoon in early November about 15 mins before closing. We had a road trip itinerary and we were running about a hour behind.Fortunately we made it in time running into the visitor center like crazier people. My middle one immediately asked for a Junior Ranger booklet to do and running around through the exhibits to find the answers. My oldest and youngest were just wandering around. We didn't have enough time for the short film but we did get to do our NPS Passport Stamps and also purchase some merch. We spent most of the time talking with the 2 NPS staff. They were both really fun to talk to and they probably thought we were crazy running in with 15 mins left to try and do EVERYTHING and our passport stamp books. We got to look around for a bit and my middle one did finish the Junior Ranger booklet. The bathrooms were located just outside the main doors to the visitor center. The parking was actually across the street so it was weird to get to if you've never been here before. We were sad we had to rush through everything. We would definitely try to stop by again if just to watch the short film. We were heading from VA to Pigeon Forge TN. Great stop along the way for a well needed break.

The Andrew Johnson National Historic Site is very well worth the visit. The presentation states with a short movie from which we learned quite a bit. Inside the welcome center is the original Taylor Shop owned and operated by Andrew Johnson, before entering politics. There us also a nice collection of memorabilia and a small gift shop.

Come & tour this informative location of Andrew Johnson! Wonderful, friendly, professional employees! Interesting!

Able to walk to all of the attractions associated with the park. Easy parking. Very informative and interesting! Awesome food and coffee within walking distance also. Just a great experience! Wonderful small town!

Angela P — Google review

The visitors center is excellent and was quite cool to see how the structure houses Andrew Johnson's original tailor shop. The first home Johnson purchased in Greeneville is next door along with a replica of his birthplace in Raleigh, North Carolina. While not the largest presidential site I've visited they have succeeded in painting a fair and accurate portrait of the 17th president. While I still cannot forgive Johnson's strict opposition to racial quality during his presidency, I can say that visiting the site has changed my perspective on Johnson as an individual in a slightly more positive way.

A little gem in a very pretty town. Many sites with the same name so the NPS logo was a big help finding it. A well done exhibit with a nice movie as well. Ranger was very knowledgeable and friendly. Easy to get between the site and the burial is up in a hill I relooking the area. Very pretty. Whole town is neat and pretty. Some very nice shops. A lovely drive as well

We had such a great experience learning about the life of Andrew Johnson and his family. Our guide was a National State Park Ranger who was informative and engaging throughout the tour. Would highly recommend adding this to anyone's itinerary. You reserve your free ticket and time slot for the tour by visiting the Andrew Johnson Visitor Center.

Lots of information about Andrew Johnson, from birth through death. We were impressed they actually house the home and tailor shop where he and his family lived and worked. Lots of info about his presidency and the staff were very helpful.

Andrew Johnson National Historic Site is a great place to spend a few hours and learn more about our 17th President. Start at the Visitor's Center. Get a Junior Ranger packet - great for all ages! Get tickets to tour the house - they are free and well-worth your time! Look through the museum at the Visitor's Center - dont miss the tailor shop! Watch the movie and then strike out for the three locations. It's a beautiful walk on a nice day. The drive to the grave site is also beautiful. Definitely worth an hour or two if you are in the area.

Great park. A lot of history here. Nice Visitor Center. They have a film you can watch, it lasts about 15-20 minutes. The view is very nice from the cemetery.

This place is perched on top of a higher slope in the modest town of Greeneville, TN. Even though, it has an amazing view of the surrounding area. The centerpiece of this National Park parcel, is the burial memorial for our Beloved Past President of the United States - Andrew Johnson. His loving wife installed an amazing arch to compliment the original tombstone and to illustrate her love for him. It's uncommon.Regardless of your political opinions, it is legendary. And though statues of US history are no longer "in style" with current opinion leaders and mass media, this memorial is stunning and relevant. The tombstones surrounding it are made of marble and are engraved appropriately. I'm proud of my country's history and this is proof of our freedom. It's worth a visit and respect for our country's history.

Gidget S — Google review

This was a cool historic site to check out. The house where he ended up is a few blocks from the house he originally moved into but its not terribly far. Wasn't a bad place to learn about some history.

Andrew Johnson Visitor Center provided a wealth of information and artifacts surrounding Andrew Johnson. One of the highlights is the original Tailor Shop, which Andrew used. Very well preserved and awesome to gaze upon. It's highly recommended.

What a pleasant suprise this place was! Knowing Johnson was an unpopular president beforehand, it was nice to come and learn more about him. My view of him definitely shifted. Great artifacts and rangers here. Definitely worth the stop!

We did the 1/2 day white water rafting trip with Richard as our guide and it was amazing!! The scenery is stunning!! The trip was the perfect length for us beginners with rapids that were fun, but not too challenging. We also got to jump off a baby cliff into the water and swim through some slow rapids. So fun, I definitely recommend the trip! The booking, communication, and customer service were all top notch, smooth, and easy. But most of all, Richard made our trip! He was very knowledgeable about the history of the river and the area and's he knew the river like the back of his hand. With the directions and guidance he gave us, we knew we were safe with him. He could also be a stand up comedian, he was hilarious! We had the best trip, and hope to do it again next year!

We had to choose the kid calm white water rafting adventure because my daughter is 5. To charge us $250 for a family of 4 plus tip is ROBBERY for what we rafted ...seriously it was a lake and completely flat (see picture). There were 3 tiny/short/easy rapids for the entire 2 hour boat ride. They mentioned people tube down it to give you an idea of how gentle it is. Don't waste your money! We had a much better time tubing in Cherokee (and experienced much larger rapids in a tube)!

We had an awesome time!! We did the 1/2 day with lunch and it was a blast. We had the opportunity to rock jump and swim before lunch. The experience isn’t just about the rafting it’s also the guides. Glen was so knowledgeable and made us feel very comfortable. Pete..so many jokes!! I laughed so hard (bring a joke with you to share). And Amy, our bus driver, amazing skills.

This was the perfect trip for the people in my group who were new to white water rafting, able to experience rapids without getting scared or falling out!Everything was thoroughly discussed ensuring our safety, alleviating any fears or concerns, the guide even made the bus ride down and back enjoyable with his sense of humor!Would be great for families with kids as wellDefinitely recommend French Broad Adventures for your next white water rafting trip! :)

Incredible experience for my first time rafting! Super informative and the staff was outstanding! Rocky was our group leader and made us all feel comfortable and we had a wonderful time! I will highly recommend everyone I know to use French Broad Adventures! Thanks for a terrific and fun day!

Marty was by far the BEST guide for our white water rafting trip. We highly recommended requesting her if you book a trip. Her commands are simple and effective. And compared to what we heard coming from the other rafts, she was by far the most experienced. All of us made it in one piece and we had a great time! Thanks again!

We did the mountain biking tour this morning and loved it! Tyler was an awesome guide and not only shared some fun stories with us, but made sure we were comfortable and safe. He was patient as I figured out how to make right turns (Indy blood just wasn’t letting it happen) and picked up on when we were really ready to fly! Thanks for a great trip, Tyler!

Never went white water rafting before but decided to go with family. It went very nice. Our guide was name Ellie and she was amazing! She was very humorous, informative, patient and guided us all the way, safety. Very fun adventure went on the half day tour (3-4hrs). The course was great for beginner thrill-seekers or anyone interested in trying something new. It was affordable and fun. I would recommend it to people of all ages. Will be back to try out the other courses :D

Initially myself & 3 friends were booked for a Zipline excursion, but a last minute conversation with our main guide Tyler ended with us switching to an E-Bike ride through a trail that passes through NC & TN...and what a seamless and easy transition this change was!Tyler and Tom our guides for this trip took the time to make sure everyone was acutely aware of how to use these bikes .. considering I myself hadn't ridden a bike in over a decade... definitely was some things to pick back up.They were very through with assisting anyone who needed it, but let us kind of explore are ride at our own pace. They pointed some of Indigenous paintings on a rock cliff, and a couple good scenic views along the way.Overall, this was one of the highlights of our trip, and I know once we got back to cell service a number of people were googling the prices of E-Bikes for back home. I would highly recommend any outdoor excursion this Outfitter offers! And if the chance to return to Asheville presents itself we'll certainly be booking a return visit! This review is based on a trip that took place October of 2023 just for transparency...I'm really bad at posting here.

We had a blast white water rafting with Kerrie. We loved her adventurous attitude. She really made sure we hit the rapids just right for the most bang and biggest splashes. Half of our group had never been rafting before and everyone felt safe. When we weren't paddling, we were joking, sharing stories, and laughing almost non-stop. We booked a half day tour and wished we had booked the full day. We also did the waterfall rappel with Mars and Colin. They were terrific guides and we loved the experience. The hike in and out is nice and the waterfall is beautiful. They drove us to the location and we all joked and shared stories throughout the day. We were a group of 8, ages 20 - 70. If we are back in this area, we will definitely adventure with FBA again.

This place is so much fun, The staff was amazing and very helpful with all of our booking needs. The bus ride to the river to get on the rafts was the best safety talk i ever had on top of all the absolutely hilarious dad jokes told by Richard, he really could have a second career as a comedian. Once we got to the boat launch Richard gave us a safety brief then told us which guide we were going to be with for this trip. We were in J’s group, between the awesome history and jokes, we had a great time! Would definitely recommend and would definitely come back. We felt safe and like dare devils at the same time, I personally recommend jumping off the rock it was very fun, and when they tell you you can get out and swim i recommend that too. if you don’t like getting splashed a lot then don’t go in the front you will definitely get splashed. anywhere in the boat you will get splashed but especially in the front. Thanks to all the great staff! can’t wait to come back sometime

This was such a fun family experience! Tried to read a lot of reviews to figure out which company to go with and I think I picked well! Also seems to be a shorter bus ride to the river than others that look closer to Asheville. (All of them have you load onto a bus with the rafts.) Jonah was our guide and he was awesome. Super fun— kids were sad when it ended—-ready to do it again!

Went for a calm water tour and it was a great relaxing way to spend the afternoon. They provided splash gear which is essentially high end rain gear and way exceeded expectations. Probably the best gear I've ever been provided rafting. For once I would say weather would not shy me away from running with this crew. Rain or shine you're going to have a great time. It was only 50 deg today and we had smaller children and they even stayed warm. If you forget something they have a great store with everything from clothes to water shoes, to water socks and it's all quality items that aren't throw away when you're done. Very impressed!

Had an awesome time white watering rafting for the first time. The guides are great and they make the whole experience (even the bus ride) enjoyable from beginning to end. The views from the water are simply breathtaking. Pricey but worth every penny.

We had an amazing rafting trip with French broad adventures. Our guide, Eddy, was the best. He kept us on our toes and helped us have the best adventure. We also enjoyed listening to the comedic stylings of Richard on the bus ride to the river and back.

First time whitewater rafting but the guides put all our fears at ease. Well organized and well managed. Our guide, Shane, was a hoot and we thoroughly enjoyed the conversations along the way. Everyone we encountered seems to enjoy their "job" and it shows in how they interact with each other and with us. Thank you for a great experience!

Where to begin. I can’t recommend French Broad Adventures enough for whitewater rafting. This was my first time going and I went with a group of 5 that also had never been rafting before. I was pretty nervous beforehand, but Jim, our guide was amazing. If you have the chance to have him as your guide, don’t hesitate. Had a lot of good stories during our 5 mile trip and showed us landmarks as we went down the river. The best part, he kept us all in the raft so no one fell in! 😂. It was a really fun trip and would recommend to anyone so just go whitewater rafting, but stick to with French Broad!

Steven T — Google review

My family did the zip line & rafting. we had the best adventures you could imagine! Zipping with Mars & AJ could not have been better. They are so knowledgeable and personable, always ensuring your experience is great. Our rafting trip was also terrific! When our zipping went a bit long, the FBA team held the raft trip a bit, so we could grab a quick bite to eat. The rafting team was awesome. Shawn kept us entertained on the bus & Ally led our rafting "team". Ally displayed her expertise throughout the trip, and everyone had a blast. I would highly recommend FBA to anyone looking for a fantastic adventure. Their entire team, everyone we encountered working there, went above and beyond to ensure our experience was amazing and memorable.

Kurt R — Google review

Sarah was a great guide. She is relatively new, so I expect she has some improvement forthcoming. We had her all to ourselves, just the two of us, so we didn’t have a lot of paddles in the water. She’s a tiny young lady and very soft spoken. With more confidence, which only comes with time and more projection in her voice when giving commands she will surely be even better. The whole team was great. We will return next year and hope to see Sarah again.

YachtsOneSRQ — Google review

Had an amazing half trip down the French Broad River with my team! Pete was the most pleasant host for everyone and knows how to get a laugh. He truly loves what he does and is just as entertaining as the trip down the river! Everyone that we came in contact with was friendly and was happy to help us! We will definitely be back to try out the zip lines, e bikes and repelling! Thank you for an awesome adventure.

Bays Mountain Park & Planetarium is a sprawling 3650-acre nature preserve nestled in the Bays mountains, offering over 40 miles of scenic trails for hiking and mountain biking. The park features a picturesque lake, diverse animal habitats, and a state-of-the-art planetarium at the Nature Center. Visitors can also enjoy an adventure ropes course with zip lining and barge rides. The park provides opportunities for family outings, solo exploration, or leisurely hikes with dogs.

Beautiful park with wolves, fox, reptile house, birds, We went on Wednesday at 2pm to see them feed the wolves. The rangers was very informative and was able to answer all of our questions. The park has beautiful hiking trails and a museum. During the season you can take a barge ride on the lake. It does cost $7 to get in the park,$6 per person for the barge ride and planetarium show. There are picnic tables but they do not sell food . I highly recommend you visit this beautiful park.

$7/vehicle (more for buses), planetarium is $6/person, children 5 and under free with parent. Nature programs $3/ person or more for a 2-hour tour. Barge rides also cost pp. Beautiful park on a mountain, excellent trails, nice buildings, zip line seems to be a resident contractor business. Serious discounts for military i.d. Wolf pack is fed around 2 pm. Wolves have a nice large compound. Bobcats are also in a nice large commons for the two brothers. Planetarium is small but seems new, seats are reclined, very comfortable. Do not go late, they open 10 min before show time and lock doors at one minute past! On weekends there are food trucks. Membership probably worth it! That includes free planetarium and Barge, iirc. On approach drive, stay left at the fork or you will wind up in the Eastman company's private rec area.

One of the prettiest places I have went and hiked/walked! It cost $7 to get in but there is so much to see and do. The city of Kingsport maintains this park beautifully and provides a great map to help you navigate the grounds.

Miranda W — Google review

Lovely, 65 degrees, arrived at 11 am at opening hour and a line of cars waiting which moved quickly. Beautiful grounds and the tree colors didn't disappoint. The bobcat, wolves nor the raptors came out to greet us 😭. Barge had broken down the day before so we were refunded. Hiked until 2 pm then entered the planetarium where a young woman spoke for 45 MN (Unexpected but enjoyable) re planets. This is a beautiful destination, easy to walk, and visually satisfying.

Great little nature center. Several snake species. Raptors and a very healthy and active wolf pack.Georgeous bay views. So glad that we checked this place out. Highly recommended.

Enjoyed an afternoon at the Bays Mountain Park. The paths throughout the park are paved and clearly marked. The exhibits are clean and the animals have plenty of space. The animals were calm and appeared to be content. I enjoyed a barge ride and saw deer eating lily pads in the water. Our guide was friendly and knowledgeable. I only saw a food truck on site with sandwiches so you may want to bring a cooler with snacks/ lunch. Picnic tables are available outside and the indoor restrooms and gift shop are a short walk from the parking lot. There is a water bottle refill station on site. Some areas are dog friendly, except for the animal exhibits. I did not visit the planetarium due to personal time constraints.

I had my best visit ever to Bay’s Mountain Park on 7/31/24. I went out there to get away from the Biblical flooding rains in Knoxville. If you’re in a hurry skip to another review.I must say the remodel of their visitor’s center came out beautifully! I was sad to see that the huge Apollo 11 spacecraft model is no longer hanging from the ceiling. Change is tough for me sometimes. 😂If you’re into outer space, the planetarium show is right up your alley and the lady who gives the show is wonderful with a good sense of humor. Nice job Abby! I saw both shows: Appalachian Sky at 2pm and One Sky at 4pm. Both were really interesting and informative but I found the second show to be much more interesting. The visual detail shown by their projection machine is a total wonder for the eyes to feast on. Did you know they do a star watch with telescopes on Saturday nights in the Spring and Fall? I’ll definitely be back in October to see how much I remember from my planetarium lessons! This time of year the park is open until 8pm so I decided to get a 6 mile hike in and take some pictures. I’ve been to Garden Mountain tower on the northwest summit overlooking Holston Army Ordnance plant near Mt. Carmel but I had never been to the tower on the southeast side of the park. It’s a stout hike up there from the parking lot but well worth it on a clear day. The view of Holston and Buffalo Mountains was very nice. The tower isn’t as high up as the other one so the trees could use a little trim job (hint hint).I find Bay’s Mountain to really be an enchanting place. Just the reservoir itself is so pristine, you can’t take a walk around it without stopping several times to admire its beauty. If you can handle the costs, this is an enjoyable place for everyone because there’s a bunch of different things to see. Plus, everyone working there is very helpful and nice. That’s a big plus!

We enjoyed your short visit here and glad the dogs could come along. There are restrictions to where dogs are allowed but we wanted to take a short hike on the lakeside trail. It was $7 for entry. We say a few beaver dams.

I'm originally from Illinois and have now been to Bays Mountain twice. The first trip was to the planetarium, which was amazing and fun. The second was to tour the animal habitats and the boat ride. Our guides were so informative. They were able to get the wolves to howl, which was so amazing to hear live. The boat tour was wonderful. Our guide told us many things about the habitat and Bays Mountain. Highly recommend a visit.

It was a wonderful day. We hiked, watched, and learned about wolves, investigated & learned about the saved wildlife, we took the barge ride to enjoy and learn more about the area and we loved the planetarium. It was a gr8 day. 💚💙💜

Denise D — Google review

Fabulous spot for day hikes! There are hiking trails, areas to picnic by the lake, a nature center, all kinds of things to check out. You’ll want to see this place if you’re in town!

Briana P — Google review

Absolutely beautiful place to take the family. We saw a show as at the planetarium. I was impressed at how clean and well kept it was. We went on the barge ride, very pleasant, then we enjoyed time when the wolves get fed. The staff were kind and knowledgeable about the animals and local wildlife. Where the exact exhibits were located was a little unclear, I suggest taking a map but we asked for directions and found everything on time without one. Overall wonderful place!!

Danneka ( — Google review

Great, well maintained trails, good animal exhibits, beautiful, stunning scenery, and wonderful fire-tower experiences all within about 10 minutes of food, shopping, and accommodations.

Trevor W — Google review

One of our favorite places for a nature walk. The kids love the barge ride and planetarium.

Rebecca E — Google review

Park is in the middle of improvement, lots of trees down around the animal areas and gift shop. Hiking trails were well maintained. The adventure course is now closed.Dogs are not allowed in areas with animals.

John W — Google review

Beautiful park. Super fun for the boys. Loved seeing all the animals. Beautiful place to walk and sight see. The gift shop was super cute and had more things to sightsee inside. Cute little cave for the kiddos to play in. Can't wait to go again

Kaiya W — Google review

Fantastic spot to visit with your family. We took in a show at the planetarium, a boat ride on the lake, and experienced some unique animals in their care.

Travis H — Google review

Great place to spend with the family! Some areas are under renovation at the moment however still lots to see. And I will say, I wish the birds had larger exhibits. The barge ride is fun and educational however the planetarium is not worth the extra fee.

Jessica — Google review

A perfect place to spend the day enjoying the serenity of nature! There are lots of hiking trails and beautiful views.

Chadwick D — Google review

Great place to visit with the family!! They have a lot of exhibits to enjoy for the small parking/entry fee of $7 for the entire car(not per person) to the park. Additional cost for the barge ride and planetarium, and a small obstacle coarse (I'm not sure if it was open, though).

J W — Google review

Wonderful wonderful place to visit! I went when I was a child and now my daughter has been able to go. The gift shop is also a win win all proceeds go to help the park and animal's there. It is just a wonderful family place good for a day visit.

Jessica A — Google review

This place was beautiful! Didn't do any of the hiking trails but definitely a great experience, especially with seeing wolves up close!

Kathryn S — Google review

I can not say enough positive things about this place! We had a wonderful day here & it it wasn't such a far drive we would return often. There is so much to do here so plan for a full day! There are animals, the planetarium is super cool, the barge ride is awesome with a lot of history, and the inside of the nature center is very intriguing. What a great job they're doing keeping this park clean too!!

USA Raft Adventure Resort offers a thrilling experience on the Nolichucky Gorge with expert guides like Walker and Loren. The Lower Nolichucky trip provides a different but fun adventure, with a beautiful primitive campground at Red Banks take out. The friendly and helpful staff, including Dale and Riff, make for an enjoyable stay in accommodations like the Love Shack. While Take Out and One Love were closed during this visit, guests can bring their own supplies for next time.

My wife and I were in town for our anniversary and looking for something exciting to do. The spelunking adventure into Worley's Cave was AWESOME! Andy and Miranda (our guides) were knowledgeable, personable, funny, and so patient during our excursion. We were with another group who had smaller kids and they took their time to pause to point out cave-dwelling wildlife, rock formations, and were mindful of what crystalline formations were still growing to look at but not touch! Fantastic experience - highly recommend!

Matt A — Google review

Absolutely horrible customer service! My group was eligible for a 15% discount for lodging. At the time of my booking, months in advance of the trip, I was not aware of this but became aware a few weeks before the trip. I called and emailed repeatedly trying to get someone to issue a credit and was told that only the office manager, Tiffany could handle this. Tiffany never replied despite direct emails and messages from her employees. Two days before the trip, we were told a credit would be issued and finally thought the issue was resolved. It's now 4 weeks since the trip and no credit was ever issued. I have called 3 times since and finally spoke to Tiffany who was not even remotely understanding about her lack of professionalism and failure to address this the numerous times I had reached out. I was finally issued a store credit good for a year, but no actual refund because that is their "policy." Their "policy" also appears to be to avoid all communication when it isn't to their advantage. Very unprofessional! I feel ripped off. Buyer beware!

We stayed at the resort for two nights. Dale, Riff and the rest of the staff that we interacted with were friendly and helpful. We loved staying in the Love Shack. We were there on Monday and Tuesday night, so the Take Out and One Love were not open. We brought our own and will check that the next time we are there. We went rafting on the Nolichucky Gorge with USA Raft during our stay. Our guide, Walker, was fantastic. He is a real pro on the river. He and trip leader Loren made the trip exciting and fun. We will definitely go again. We also floated the Lower Nolichucky a couple of times while there. That is a different but fun trip. The Red Banks take out has a nice beach and is a beautiful primative campground.

Benjamin S — Google review

Such a great trip!I booked a half day rafting the Nolichucky with 7 others. None of us had much prior white water rafting experience, but honestly that made it better. Huge shout out to our guide Sprocket: he was witty, super knowledgeable, and whipped us in to ship shape fast. The whole experience lasted almost 4 hours ans was tons of fun. At the end, the group got to "surf" which involved directing the raft upstream and hang in the little water fall. Beautiful scenery in the smoky mountains and we even saw a bald eagle. Overall I highly recommend this trip

Drew B — Google review

Dale was simply amazing from start to finish! He was patient and helpful. Our team had the best time tubing!! We will definitely be back- next time to camp, raft, and tube again ♡

We had a company retreat in Asheville and decided to make the drive out after hearing amazing things about USA Raft & the Nolichucky Gorge trip. All well-founded! Our team was split into 5 rafts, each staffed by knowledgeable and fun guides. It was a rainy day, but everyone still had a blast. Definitely recommend!

USA Raft is truly an amazing place. I can’t express in words how beautiful the Nolichuky Gorge is. You must float the river and experience it yourself. Danny was our guide, his knowledge on the history of the area, the flora & fauna made the trip that much more special. His paddling skills were amazing, he could certainly pick a line! The campground at USA Raft is awesome as well, the Take Out Bar has a great beer selection and good bar food. You might get lucky with good music on the small or large stage!I can’t say enough about this Mountain Gem!Thanks for a wonderful weekend!Rhys

Out of the three times I have gone, none have ever disappointed me. We had an awesome river guide named sprocket, and he totally blew we away with how cool he was, especially with his jokes. Not to discount the other guides as they are equally awesome!! Please do yourself a favor and visit this iconic river with the best guides in Tennessee and North Carolina.

Fire B — Google review

Feeling duped- after reserving and paying way in advance, we were told at check in there’s a band playing both nights and it’s MANDATORY that we pay an additional $30 PER PERSON for the music which we weren’t told about until arriving, did not enjoy, and the noise went on until after midnight BOTH nights. Quiet time was irrelevant-non-existent. If we didn’t pay the extra $60 for two people, we could not stay. This should have been announced during reserving but they waited until our arrival to announce the extra, HIDDEN, MANDATORY fees. Will not be back nor will we recommend. You got our money but you won’t get any more from us. ☹️

Cleo H — Google review

This was an adventure for the books! The guide Danny was funny and knowledgeable about the river itself and the geography. We got to experience a wonderful river. The thrill of a 3 or 4 clas rapid is so enticing! I will be back!

My family had a great rafting trip with Lela and David as our guides. They were very safety-conscious but also lots of fun! Their communication was easy to follow, and we all worked as a team, including one teenager and two kids under 12. The picnic lunch was a very enjoyable way to break up the trip.

Sunda M — Google review

Super awesome experience on the Nolichucky with Andy! He was very informative of the surrounding area and history, kept us engaged with silly jokes, and kept us on the edge of our seats! Definitely a trip worth making. Can't wait to come back!

Stayed at Boone cabin with my hubby and 8 kids! So much fun, totally comfortable and enjoyable spot. Lela and David took our crew rafting down the Noli and showed us a great time. So impressed by their patience, professionalism and joy in what they do. Please ask for them by name when making reservations- you won’t regret it!

Had a great time on the rafting trip! Our guide Andy kept us alive and entertained the whole time. Great guy. 10/10 would do again 🫡🫡🫡

Ivan G — Google review

This is a campground on the river, lots of options from cabins to tents to trailers.I did the half day gorge trip. water was around 800 cfs, and we had to trail walk around the low water, about 1/2 mile. (surprise!), I enjoyed the trip, and the guide, but carrying the raft up and back to the shack (300 yds uphill) was not fun. They really need some carts for that. When we ran the nolochucky, it, it was really class 3. water was pretty warm. I think they need over 1200 cfs to not walk around the low areas. This is has kind of a hostel vibe, next door is a more refined campground for RVs.

Planned this trip a month ago, long overdue vacation with my wife. We scheduled a 1/2 day rafting trip, for 1:30pm. We both work late nights into early morning so getting up for the 8:30trip would have been a rough indevour. However the wonderful staff worked some magic and got us a group for 10:30am.Our guide Lauren was amazing, personable, knowledgeable and made our trip memorable and safe.At night our "Appalachian concierge" Cory was quick to get us what we needed, helpful, friendly and an all around great guy!We had a couple great evenings at the Take Out Tavern. The food was amazing, the beers ice cold, service was absolutely spot on weather it was to warm our bellies after the wonderful white water or after a few beers. We stayed in one of the domes, the pictures didn't even do it justice to how luxurious it would be. The bathhouse facility and sauna were clean and maintained daily. We had a wonderful surprise of live music by the Dirty Dead. The grounds had this amazing vibe and ambiance, it felt like I came home, it was home, and everyone there was my family.A completely magical vacation, we can not wait to go again. Already looking at the calendars!Thank you to everyone, even if I didn't get your name you were intrical to making it the best vacation, what our souls really needed.

I gotta write an updated review. We’ve had a couple (big) bummers trying to camp here in the last year (really do not recommend the overnight car camping spots; twice our reservation was unavailable upon arrival and the staff seems pretty disinterested in addressing this issue), BUT I had an absolutely lovely experience at the take out bar, and enjoyed just chilling on the property while listening to the band by the river. The river access here is prime. We don’t like the camping experience and still resent that (it used to be one of our favorite spots), but as a day/evening hang out, we like the experience and will probably return. Also, NOLI is a very cool organization that meets at USA Raft for several of their events. We participated in the Blue Ghost Firefly hike this past Friday and really enjoyed it! Highly recommend checking out NOLI and participating in their activities!

We rafted with USA Raft and had a blast! Scott was our guide. He was friendly, professional and helped us have a great time! The river was intense and beautiful. I definitely recommend

Warriors' Path State Park is a 950-acre nature complex located in Kingsport, Tennessee, surrounding the shores of Fort Patrick Henry Lake. It offers a wide range of activities such as camping, hiking, fishing, birding, and golfing. The park features 12 miles of hiking trails and an 8.5-mile mountain biking trail system that is internationally renowned.

What a nice campground. We managed to get site #1 which is right next to the bathrooms and showers. It uniquely has 2 levels, a lower for parking, cooking, eating and hanging out and an upper area on the hill perfect for a few tents. A fire pit happened to be next to the steep hillside that made a big difference with camp fire smoke in our eyes in the shifting winds. Don't make the mistake of only getting 1 bundle of wood at the camp store for the evening, which was notably well seasoned. Please keep an eye out for poison ivy. There isn't a great deal of it but it is all over in very small patches including a few feet from the table. It was amazing how loud the birds were at sunrise. We enjoyed this site immensely.

Took a nice hike, bit more strenuous that I thought it would be, but the view was worth it. Devils backbone trail, ended up parking on a golf cart path by accident. Would be nice to see parking signs!

We take the puppers on the weekends. It's a lovely stroll around the lake/pond. The dogs like to play in the water where they can run off leash.

Had a good day out here. I've lived down here for about 13 years and finally got to visit this place. It was busy but not overcrowded. Had a great time swimming and relaxing on a warm day. Can't wait to go back which will be soon.

The playground, it's great if you have kids. The walking paths disk Golf paddle boats on the lake. You can go fishing. It's a walking trail around the lake itself. Or in the middle of I should say, anyway, it's a that's a good state park. They've made some updates in the last year or 2, so It's better.

Warriors Path State Park is always great to visit. Great walking, disc golf, boat launch, new marina, and super nice 18 hole golf course with driving range. It's a state park, so there is no strict dress code at the golf course. Great camp grounds too. Bank and boat fishing on Fort Patrick Henry Lake. Great playground for kids too.

Vickie H — Google review

Great place for kids and plenty of room for them to run around. However they could have more swings and more learning stations for the children. While I was there I noticed it was real easy for a child to just walk off toward the parking lots. They could've put a fence around the playground so they couldn't do that as easily. Children can walk off with anyone if they wanted to if not wartched carefully.

Shannon C — Google review

Really amazing shared use trails. Perfect for zipping around on a mountain bike while also being really enjoyable to hike along. If visiting I recommend taking a map just because all the trails can cross each other and become a little confusing. The trails are marked well and taken care of. Thank you to the volunteers who maintain the trails!

This park is beautiful! Easy access & conveniently located to Kingsport, Tennessee. The RV sites are closely arranged & because so many people bring extra cars & toys it does get full. We would definitely return!!

Many hiking options here. You should be able to find one to your liking and ability. For more of a casual walk try Duck Island. Stop by the park office and get a map of trails and parking.

Absolutely delightful campsite for an overnight stay. Level campsite, water and electric services, convenient dump station. Not very many campers for April 1 stay, but I’m sure it gets very busy in the summer. View of the river and clean restrooms. Highly recommend.

Super peaceful and quiet. I enjoyed my stay and plan on coming back in the future.

Rianna J — Google review

We spent a few days here camping. There is so much to do. The campsite we were in was small but we fit ok. The restrooms were mostly clean but look like prison style bathrooms. The air conditioners in the bathrooms need to be cleaned and serviced bad. I don't think they have been cleaned or serviced since they were installed. The lake is great for kayaking, boating, fishing and paddle boarding. There is a boat launch and a separate kayak launch. There is a fishing pier and a marina. There is also a golf course and riding stables.

Scott — Google review

Love this park. The lion the with and the wardrobe theme has my little millennial heart smiling every time I visit. There is so much more here than just the playground.

Michaela B — Google review

We camped here for 5 days in June 2023. The campground is nice but tight for bigger rigs. We have a 37 ft camper and there are few sites that will accommodate that size rig. There is a boat ramp to put in small boats and kayaks which is nice. There was not a lot of privacy, the sites are pretty close together. We had no problems with the water or power. (50amp) The lake was very calm while we were there and an easy paddle. We saw many birds and even a few deer down by the lake. The pool was not open while we were here. The bathhouse was clean, but very institutional feeling. (Metal toilet, small sink, concrete 4 ft divider between bathroom area and shower area. The bathhouse in our area was composed of 4 lockable sections each having toilet, sink and shower.)

I A — Google review

Beautiful wooded campground located just off of I-81 and only 10 minutes from town if you need food or supplies. Amazing new kids play area, new marina, hiking, biking, golf, soccer, and disc golf. Very quite and peaceful!

Tom A — Google review

Nice campground along the river. Close to town. Many of the sites are short - for smaller RVs and tenters, but we had one long enough for our 36' fifth wheel. We did have a bit of a challenge leveling and unhitching due to the uneven side to side and front to back of the site, but we managed. Also had a speed bump getting into our site. For drainage control, I assume. Site was equipped with firepit and picnic table. There are nice hikes in the park as well as a marina and golf course. It is a pretty setting. Some sites back up to the river and may have a view through the trees.

Hiking Trails

If you're looking for a free and active way to spend time in Johnson City, the Tweetsie Trail is a great option. This trail, created as part of the Rails-to-Trails project, repurposed an old rail line into a scenic pathway. Despite its city accessibility, it offers a peaceful escape from urban life.

Hit this trail up the first time this week, and it didn't disappoint!I've only went a bit passed the 1 mile mark tho, so I am only rating it based of that first mile.(It was hot out when we walked, but the trail was 10° cooler!)

Amanda H — Google review

Awesome trail great people that walk on it. Sad thing though is it's so dirty down the hill around the 8 mile marker and so on

I enjoyed riding the trail and I think they have done a wonderful job. I think they could turn the volume down on the police presence. Nobody wants to have a good time and relax when you're surrounded by police.

Nice, smooth trail for a great family ride. The Rotary Club pavilion looks great!

Rita N — Google review

All the stop signs that face the tweetsie trail need to be removed and yield to pedestrain/cyclists flashing signs need to be placed at all road crossings. Someone is going to get hit and killed at one of those road crossings. Drivers don't slow down and runners, walkers, and cyclists don't stop. Johnson City and Elizabethton need to make the Tweetsie trail safer for the people who want to use it.

Sights & Landmarks

Bristol Motor Speedway is a high-banked, quarter-mile race track that hosts major auto races, amateur driving schools, and daily tours. Visitors can enjoy the "Fan Zone" without needing a race ticket and can explore various events outside the venue. The seating provides great views due to the small track size, offering an intimate racing experience. Additionally, the speedway hosts special events like "Speedway in Lights," featuring beautiful light displays on the track and a Christmas village for dining and local shopping.

Great place to visit even on the off-season. There was coffee and corvettes morning. Got to meet someone who works for the track. This person gave us an amazing morning by letting us drive on the track and signing our names on the wall. Great day!

Tawnya K — Google review

This is by far the best Nascar Track! This is my 3rd time at the track and it doesn't disappoint. The magnitude of the stadium, the sound and vibrations, it is amazing. The staff are very friendly and helpful. There is not a bad seat in the house. There are shuttles and trams that help you get to the track from the campground.

Andrew R — Google review

We went to a race and honestly I didn’t know anything about racing. I did however learn some things and really enjoyed myself. You could see pretty clearly and I feel the seating was better than NFL seating if you enjoy it.The only thing that was bad was that I didn’t know that you would have a lot of uphill walking to do just to get to this speedway. Even leaving left you with a lot of walking uphill. This wouldn’t be an issue if you are in great physical shape or didn’t have small children, however I did have children and was mid pregnancy. I watched a older gentleman also struggle with his cane as well. The race itself was great though.

My husband had been to Bristol before and said I needed to go with him the next time. I went and really enjoyed it. People were nice, the Fan Zone had a lot to offer, and the races were awesome. What a fast track. As they say, it's Bristol, baby!!

See our experience at Bristol Motor Speedway I made two videos:Video – walking around prerace *** https://youtu.be/Yw8lr-FZoiU ***Video – Part 2 *** https://youtu.be/iaHPih8qg4Y ***I am new to racing but have been fortunate enough to have seen NASCAR races at 5 or 6 different tracks. Bristal was special because it was a small track and felt very intimate. No matter where you sit you can always see all the cars. The race was not crowded which was a surprise to me. There was a wide variety of parking options, and the prices varied a little. We paid 25 dollars and parked about half a mile away. There were a lot of vendors that were selling official NASCAR items as well as bootleg. There was a wide selection of food options as well. My only suggestion is to get there early because some of the lines are long. There was a kids play area where there were 4 or 5 attractions that they could run around in. The thing that was a little rough was the steep walk up to the actual track. Overall, I would say great track and a fantastic NASCAR experience.See our experience at Bristol Motor Speedway I made two videos:Pre-race *** https://youtu.be/Yw8lr-FZoiU ***Race *** https://youtu.be/iaHPih8qg4Y ***

Brian K — Google review

This is so much nicer than some of the races I've been to! One thing I'll not is it was very known to buy seats at the top because of the view but the only problem was they didn't have any of the concessions open up there. It was a full house so I'm not sure if there was a money issue in justifying having it open but it would have helped. Literally that is my only complaint which isn't bad so I'll definitely be back 🔥

Raine G — Google review

First time here was a great experience loved the The beginning with the music, troops, flying overhead and the fireworks. Very professional racetrack and drivers. Would return but not buying concessions was expecting at least the works on a hotdog for $7 was a plain wiener. Overall beautiful place!

Explore W — Google review

You've got to love car racing to endure this for hours. Hot, noisy ( of course). Crowded. Had good seats to see the event. But watching cars race around lap after lap not my idea of fun! No crashes, a couple of spills. Lots of tire changes. End of story. Getting out of parking area after the race a total nightmare. No organization there! Not for me, Supported the spouse in going, that's all.

Fiona V — Google review

Really nice track. Easy flow of parking and it’s easy to navigate around the premises. Concessions are pretty fantastic and I was amazed at how clean the bathrooms were. It’s a racetrack. A nice racetrack. Stop by for any event. Recommend it!!!!!!

Matt A — Google review

Had a great time watching the races and all the stands set up outside the stadium were really cool but I have two major gripes with this place. 1: really not accommodating to disabled people, you can get a go kart to drive you around and they "have elevators" but half the elevators weren't open so we had to walk further to one that was. 2: The employees know NOTHING, there was essentially zero communication between the employees so they parked us super far away from the stadium and claimed there was no disabled parking but when we were walking up we saw plenty of open spots closer, and then when we'd ask an employee in the stadium where anything was they'd have no idea and have to check their handbook and the map. But aside from the employees, me and my dad had such a fun time and will come again.

ERROR E — Google review

Nice friendly experience for a truck race. Sadly hardly any vendors open for food, no signs saying who’s open. The persons employed at gates had no clue about the layout of gates ect. We needed up in the wrong place a d walked way down only to find it blocked with a gate dividing the sections. It would have been better if all employees had to walk the entire place twice and they would know real quick which tickets need entrance to which gates.

Gaga T — Google review

It's Bristol Baby! Our Corvette club members each made a charity donation, and we got to do nearly 10 high-speed laps around the track...in our own Corvette. What bucket list experience.

Les R — Google review

Went for a Monday tour which appears to be offered hourly on weekdays starting at 10. Was not able to get on the track but was allowed access into the grandstands to view to facility on a self guided tour. Great facilities will definitely need to come back for a race or a MLB game

Michael W — Google review

This track knows how to do an event well. You do not need a ticket for the race to enter their "Fan Zone" so you can enjoy all of the events outside the venue. Inside, there are plenty of concessions, so you do not have to wait in lines for an ungodly amount of time. I thought the prices were reasonable for food considering the situation. The seating was great. Because it is such a small track, you can see everything. Overall, I was impressed by the whole experience.

Mark S — Google review

Had an awesome experience at the race. Just like any other track I wish the prices of the food were more reasonable. I'll go back for sure.

Anthony J — Google review

My wife won tickets to the race and it was my first time ever tailgating at a race and everyone was AWESOME. The Parking, Tram, Security, Ticketing, Guides, everyone was top-notch and friendly even though the work was hard. I can't recommend the venue enough. You can BYOB, bring soft bags still enjoy great concessions. Where can you do that nowadays. Great folks in attendance too. You have to experience it for sure. We will be back. Check 'em out-

Mark R — Google review

Saturday Night Race - facility is nice, staff is great, prepare for moderate up-hill walking and lots of it. Racing is good, seats are okay. I'd consider 5 stars but really disappointed in up to 1 1/2 to 2 hours to get out of Bristol paid parking. Been to multiple NASCAR tracks and never had this exit bottle-neck. Came for the speedway in lights. It was pretty awesome. The lights were beautiful, and being on the track was pretty cool. The Christmas village was nice to have a bite to eat and do some local shopping. It was worth the money. I came on a Monday night it was perfect, barely any traffic.

We were fortunate enough to get to experience the night dirt race on April 17, 2022 at Bristol Motor Speedway. We had box seats and VIP access to the garage and pit areas! With that, we did not have to wait in a line. We had the absolute BEST time at this race! Thank you, BLUEGREEN, for this experience! I will never be able to watch a Nascar race from the bleachers after this!🏁 By the way, Kyle Busch was the Bristol Dirt Race Winner that night! 🏁

09-21-24 NASCAR race was amazing. The venue was great. The amount of support for out dad was very appreciated We had a blast!!! Can’t wait to come back

Had a great time, although I highly recommend you bring headphones and earplugs. My only complaint is the food leaves a lot to be desired. Not good, but your allowed to bring your own pre-packaged foods , so I will do that next time. Otherwise it was a great night of racing , especially since my favorite driver won.

Park at 6,285 feet with rhododendrons, hiking & camp featuring cabins, tennis court & swimming pool.

Roan Mountain State Park is a beautiful, affordable State Park! Also, it boasts dark skies for stargazing & astronomy (which I greatly appreciate, as an amateur astronomer). We had a fantastic time hiking Roan Mountain! It has absolutely amazing views and gorgeous flowers!

Beautiful, well-kept campground. Family friendly and dog friendly. Highly recommend. Lots to do or nothing to do, the options are here, and the choice is yours.

Denise S — Google review

This was by far the best campground we've been to. Campsite #25, in our opinion, is the best campsite because it was secluded from the others by the Rhododendron's. Despite being amongst other campers, and close by, it was as if we were in the middle of the forest by ourselves. We hiked the Bearwallow Trail to Turkey Trot Trail, to Forest Road Trail to Raven Rock Trail, and then down back to camp. The trails were perfectly marked, and I mean exceptionally perfectly marked. There wasn't a moment that we went very long without seeing a trail marker. There was a time that we crossed a small bit of the creek and there was a marker at the edge on a turned over tree- most hikes make you look for the markers, and in that scenario, it would have been on the next upright tree, not at the edge.. For such an extensive hike, we were glad to enjoy the trek without worrying if we were still on the right path. Highly recommend this place and already have.

Loved our visit today. Hiked Moonshiners Run along the water, beautiful hike, and well maintained. Fairly easy trail .95 in and .95 back. My 2 year old was able to hike the trail based on difficulty but had to be backpacked due to distance. Definitely stop by the visitor center for souvenirs on your way in or out!

I came to for the Spring Naturalist Rally with friends. It was such a beautiful location & the campground is REALLY nice. The sites are kind of private & wooded compared to some campgrounds. It was also nice & quiet. Everyone was super kind & the Rally was impressive. Everyone was so knowledgeable! It was about 4 hours for us, but I'd love to go back. ⛺️

Mountains never fail you to empowering the looker. The wave of ranges in these blue ridge mountains is the proof that our Mother Earth is beautiful beyond words. You will definitely be recharged

Rakshi H — Google review

I rate this as one of the nicest “state” parks I have camped in. The grounds are immaculate and the staff are courteous and helpful. The rangers are among the nicest and most helpful I have ever crossed. The park amenities are good and the location is prime being in the wilderness but only 20 mins from a large town. The nearby town of roan mountain (10mins) has grocery and restaurants. You are also at the base of Roan Mountain that is full of trails and sights. I would recommend this park without hesitation. Park fills up quickly in the summer, so plan ahead.

Mike C — Google review

Roan Mountain State Park and the Roan Highlands are on the top of my list of places to camp and hike. The park itself is beautiful, enveloped in forest, surrounded by mountains. It is only 5 miles from Carvers Gap, where you can hike to Round Bald, Jane Bald, and Grassy Ridge Bald. As it is part of the Appalachian Trail, we meet lots of thru-hikers on the trail. The views of the Appalachians from the top of the balds are stunning. Within the park are several excellent trails, some challenging but worth the effort. We also like to drive further to Elk Knob and Boone, NC to hike and eat. Come in mid-May or late June to see lots of wildflowers. Our campsite is on a slope and a little tight even for our 23-foot. camper. But it is well-shaded, and we have decent wifi. The bathhouse in our camp area looks new and has a nice shower.

Donna B — Google review

One of my absolute favorite spots on this earth! Come here regularly to hike the Grassy Ridge Bald trail.5 miles, fairly moderate, anyone with a decent pair of hiking boots can do it, and extremely beautiful with panoramic views! I do my best to show someone this hike every time I go because everyone should check this place out.For those who are a bit inexperienced with elevation, it's typically a bit colder up here, if you're coming from areas of lower elevation.

Jeremy W — Google review

Have camped here 40 years, and Roan never disappoints. Excellent staff. The Rangers were excited to talk to botanists/plant nerds about the area's awesome native plants! Hope to ge back for a Naturalists gathering.

Jeff J — Google review

Just breathe taking views; try to make time to stop at each place along the park route and enjoy nature! You will want to return and enjoy the flowers later! Loved the twist and turn seeing the fall colors pop!

Re B — Google review

It's one of my favorite state parks. Nice campgrounds in a wooded setting. Have spots for RVs and tent campers. They have cabins also. The Doe river runs through it with trout fishing. Up the road 8 miles from the campground are the rhododendron gardens. Some of the largest native rhodidendron gardens in the world. The mountain is covered with them. Love this place

Had a wonderful experience. Park staff and park rangers were amazing, helpful and knowledgeable. Definitely plan to revisit the park in warmer weather.

We had such an amazing time at Roan Mountain State Park. We stayed in cabin 1 and we absolutely loved it. The park is so pretty. We loved how beautiful the entire place was. The scenery and foliage and creek, and hills...everything was very beautiful. We got very lucky with our cabin being located where it was due to having to cart your things in. And I loved our location because we had a nice little field area in front of our cabin. The cabin was very nice for the price. I didn't mind so much the whole "unplugged" thing. I wouldn't have minded a TV though. The beds were also rock hard. I woke up a couple of mornings hardly able to stand up my back was hurting SO bad. I almost slept on the couch. That's kind of a big thing for me because if I'm paying a lot of money to stay somewhere, the least I want is good sleep. We were very happy to see that we were located right by the 'playground' but then we see its only a set of swings, so I don't think I'd really advertise it as a playground. I really really hope they will eventually open up the pool. If they had the pool, I would have wanted to stay all summer. But we had to drive over 30 minutes to find somewhere to swim and that was a whole other story (lets just say you won't find a decent place to swim in the area). We absolutely loved that they had a game room with WIFI and rocking chairs outside. A lot of people would be up there in the evenings to use the internet. They have a pool table, TV, and claw machines. So even though there is no service or wifi at the cabins or campground, there is a place to just sit and chill and do whatever you need on wifi. We saw so many deer just walking through the park, and even through our yard. We got back to our cabin late one evening and found one just laying in our yard! We loved that. We also enjoyed walking the trails. We did try to do the Peg Leg trail and we went to the gravel parking area and the path led to the creek, but from there, there was no markers or anything telling us where to go. Maybe it was just us, but we decided not to do it because we didn't get lost..but maybe we just missed it. Overall, LOVED it. Get the pool going, and we will be back next summer for a week. Oh and also, we loved the owls. I didn't catch the ranger's name- Alyssa maybe? but she did a great job doing the aviary demonstration July 4th.

I love Roan Mountain. It's a great place to go if you need a break from reality. The Miller Farmstead is my favorite place on earth and the Chestnut Ridge Overlook is perfect.

Roam mountain state park is a beautiful place. The lower part has one of the coolest visitor centers with an old style waterwheel and a lovely center and gift shop. The historic house and area is quite nice. The top of the mountain has some amazing views and some great hiking trails. The upper road is currently closed for work being done near the roadadendrian gardens. The mountain, views, trails, history and river make this a great place for about anyone.

Coreboards C — Google review

This place was amazing. Stop by the visitors center for all your info and directions. While there you can take a loop hike that starts right off the office steps. JUST MAKE SURE YOU BRING A WALKING STICK, if you need help walking, or its damp out there. It is not a stroll. Once on the trail you can take the path to the mine ( new wood steps to get there. The walk was awesome. Then drive to the top and walk up the path (lots of parking and people walking up and down to get to the top)! The view is amazing! Cant wait to go back to see the sun rise!

Water still off for the season. Despite some rough weather, this was an awesome state park to hike. The views are rumored to be great, I spent the day inside clouds so 🤷‍♂️

Barter Theatre, located in Abingdon, Virginia, is a historic theater with a rich legacy and outstanding performances. Established in 1933, it is one of the longest-running professional theaters in the United States. The theater's name originates from its original barter system during the Great Depression. It has been associated with renowned actors like Gregory Peck. Visitors can enjoy five well-produced plays over a weekend at both the Barter Theatre and its sister venue, The Smith Stage.

What a beautiful venue! This well preserved hall is worth the trip to Abingdon. The lobby and theater have stunning detail that you find in few concert halls. The staff was friendly and accommodating. We saw "The Play That Goes Wrong" and the cast and crew was very talented and professional. The entire town made for a great visit, so we hope to return and catch another show soon.

Chris R — Google review

Cast was very well prepared! The barter is beautiful especially during the Christmas season! We saw "It's A Wonderful Life."

Enjoyed Miracle on 34th St. It put us all in the holiday mood. Staff was very friendly, helpful, the show was fantastic, the facilities were clean and ticket prices were fair. We sat on the balcony and still felt so incredibly close. ❤️

Living close by me and my daughter love to go to the plays here at The Barter. The actors do such a wonderful job! Over the weekend we went and seen The Wizard of Oz and this one was by far the best one we have seen! They all are great! But we really loved this one! It’s such an experience coming here to the plays! Great job to all the actors and staff here at the Barter!

STACY G — Google review

This is one of my favorite places. The plays are amazing every time. I buy a subscription each year so I never miss out on any. Last year I had to see some of the plays twice- they were that good. The Barter is high quality theater at a reasonable price. The actors are truly fantastic and the staff are accommodating and friendly. I highly recommend this treasure in lovely Abingdon.

First time here. Lovely, historic theater. Great seating. Saw a crazy, slapstick comedy-The Play That Goes Wrong. Actors were outstanding and impressive. Would definitely recommend and look forward to seeing other plays here.

Another fantastic show here at Barter. Saw The Wizard of Oz. The cast and production was top notch. Can't wait to get back here in December for A Christmas Carol.

William S — Google review

The Barter Theater was a wonderful experience. Nestled in the heart of Abingdon within walking distance of the Martha Washington Inn and plenty of amazing restaurants and shops, this theater is in the perfect location. It's a gorgeous, spacious theater that is updated and well-kept, but without losing its small-town charm. We saw the musical Footloose in the Summer of 2023 and it was an experience I won't easily forget. The cast was outstanding. I've seen Broadway performances less captivating! There was nothing small-time about the talent here. All of the singing, dancing, music, lighting, costumes, and stage decor was absolutely mesmerizing. The tickets were incredibly reasonably priced for how well put together this show was. There are ample bathrooms inside the theater, and a concession stand serving small snacks and drinks inside. The only caveat is that you'll have to wait outside for a while before you are seated for the performance and there aren't too many places to sit, but if the weather is nice this gives you time to explore the lovely parks/scenery nearby.

Katelin J — Google review

Play was excellent and actors were fantastic!!! I wish I could separate the theater performers and the management. Management was poor, we were stuck with a theater full of high school students that wasn’t disclosed ahead of time, theater didn’t bother to make announcement that all should be quiet and respectful to the actors and fellow patrons so there was constant noise and taking. Came back for the second half and couldn’t hear for the first 10 minutes because of all of the wrappers from snacks.

My wife and I, along with our four children (ages 9 to 16), attended “The Play That Goes Wrong” at the Barter Theatre in Abingdon, Virginia, last night, and we couldn’t stop raving about the experience! The performance was top-notch, with exceptional acting and a hilariously chaotic storyline that kept us all laughing from start to finish. The Barter Theatre continues to impress with its high-quality productions and dedication to the arts.

This mountain woodland park comprises a 108-acre lake for boating & fishing, plus camping & cabins.

I loved Hungry Mother State Park.My wife and I visited two days in May and everything was perfect. The beach and trails were almost empty, the weather was warm, and the water was amazing. The park staff do a great job with maintenance, information, and managing the park. The views are wonderful and the park is fantastic. A definite recommendation

Stayed in site 4 Royal Oak. Love this campground because it is tent only, you will not hear generators up here. This site is closest to the bathroom and the light from the bathroom lit up my tent from the back a bit, so be aware of that if you need it totally dark to sleep. I’ve camped at this park twice now and I love it. There’s a 6 mile loop around the lake, easy well defined path, no elevation to speak of. Also did lake loop to ridge trail to Molly’s knob and the elevation was hard for me but I’m out of shape. There were benches strategically placed all the way up. Super beautiful here.

S.C. O — Google review

This was such a pleasant surprise! We were just passing through and grabbed one of the last 2 sites available. The sites are large, shaded, well manicured and so peaceful. I did NOT want to leave! Checkout is at 1pm and we took our sweet time and pulled out at 12:58. Check in time is 4pm but I suspect you can check in sooner since folks occupied our site as soon as we pulled out. I can’t wait to go back and enjoy all the activities the park has to offer. We stayed at Benson, site 15. Since we were just passing through, we didn’t even unhook. I could have spent a week here.

Jaimie C — Google review

Generally we would absolutely recommend visiting Hungry Mother, great trails, beautiful beach, fun playgrounds, great staff and informative programs. The only reason for the 4 star rating is that we stayed in the Royal Oak Campground specifically for tent camping only to find the tent pads were in fact wooden decks where we could not stake up the tent. This seemed to not be a problem for most campers but having a bell tent this caused us a significant problem, which we were only able to solve by using rope to tie the tent to the deck rails. We cannot understand for a state park why this was a good idea seeing as they would know how tents are erected.

Lisa B — Google review

Our second year of camping at this park. Great hiking trails and clean campground at Burson. Camp host is the best. He is so friendly and a great worker.Avery is a very informative guide with the state park. Last year, he led an owl call activity. And this year, we were pleased to see he was involved with the evening canoe trip we signed up for. We hope to return here some day.

Beautiful lake to spend a day at the beach, ride bikes or hike. They have a small concession area as well as rental canoes and kayaks. So much to see here. I’d definitely recommend a visit. Plenty of people were fishing and lounging around. There’s areas to cookout. Tons of space to spread out… bring your animals. There are decent public restrooms and even playgrounds for children.

Camped with our two young kids at the creekside campsite and are already planning our next trip there! This site has bathrooms and showers, hookups for those with campers, and was reasonably priced per night. The visitors center, campsite, trails and park in general are stunning! The 5.7 mile loop around the lake was great, the lake beach front was well kept and the views were awesome. Highly recommend!! Park wasn't too crowded either in early/mid May

Emily G — Google review

Decent campground. Right on a main highway so it doesn't feel as if your really in the woods. Clean restrooms and showers. Unfortunately they have 4 showers but 2 are locked off so people have to wait to get a shower. Decent trails. No wildlife.

We stayed several nights in Cabin #1, an original CCC cabin built in the 1930s. It was so cool to experience! The cabin was equipped with a small kitchen, a bunk bed, a queen bed, and a living room. You must provide your own linens. The park itself is beautiful. There is a lovely swimming beach, a snack bar, hiking trails, and boats available to rent. I would highly recommend this park!

Have stayed several times and it is great, just wish it had more sites with sewers. Donald and Cathy were so accommodating as host during this trip, we enjoyed them so much.

We enjoyed our overnight stop at Hungry Mother State Park Camp Burson. The campground was nicely maintained and easy to get to. The Office and camp store staff and the park rangers were all very friendly. Beautiful Views of the Area and Hyngry Mother Lake are to be had from the nicely maintained trails.

Very pretty park. We stayed in the cabins and had a great time! If you do book the cabins, it comes with everything in it(utensils, pots, pans, firewood etc). Plenty of fun stuff to do- kayaking, paddle boarding etc. Nice to just walk around the trails too! If you hike Molly’s knob, the view is gorgeous.WiFi and LTE are pretty poor except near the adventure center(welcome center).

Great peaceful family fun. Beach area isn't overcrowded and the changing rooms/restrooms are clean. Finding close parking can sometimes be a challenge.

Great campground! Sites are large and campgrounds clean. Park Rangers patrol regularly and assist with questions. Some sites are water electric only some are full hookup.

We had an amazing experience renting a cabin for the weekend here! The cabin was clean, comfortable, and surrounded by rhododendrons. We came early in the year, so boat rentals weren't open yet and it was too cold to swim. Even so, the lake and the hiking both gave us beautiful views. Plenty of people were fishing. It's a quiet and clean park.

Such a great state park. So many hiking trails, great playground, nice visitor center. We went to a ranger program and had a great time, very informative. Recommend hiking to Molly's Knob but beware, it is pretty steep the last mile.

Old-timey country store with a steel viewing tower for panoramas of mountain peaks in 5 states.

Went with my husband and In-laws. We had a great time. The country store is really nice and the live music outside was a great touch. The views from the lookout tower were magnificent and worth the climb.

Ashleigh W — Google review

This place was amazing. The view from the tower was worth the $8. Personally, I think it's a great place to go get a good view of the mountains. The store was even better with all their old fashioned styled stuff and their cool nice collection. All in all this would be an amazing family trip

The lady running the shop was wonderful. The ice cream was great. You can not beat the views, especially if you climb to the top of the tower. Bring your cardio, because you have 193 steps to reach the top. The parking lot has some gravely spots so bikers beware. Beautiful ride up and down this mountain!“Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.”‭‭John‬ ‭14‬:‭6‬

This lookout and country store is certainly off the beaten path. It's just as down home and charming as you might surmise from the pictures. The people are welcoming and hospitable... just full of country charm. We stopped to take in the sights and enjoy some ice cream, which was quite tasty. What I'm not going to include is pictures of the actual scenery... because I really feel like this is something you just have to experience in person. This place offers live music on some weekends and seating in the shade. They've been there reliably for a lifetime and hopefully another lifetime to follow.

Absolutely go up the tower! The views are great! The tower is not for those afraid of heights. There is a lot of wind and the tower does shake. The railings are not very high so be careful when taking pictures. There are about 225 steps from the parking lot (plenty of space btw) to the observation deck. Also check out the other viewing platforms near the tower which look down onto the North and South sides of Walker Mountain. The road leading up to the tower is in good condition and is typical for mountain climbing roads in Appalachia. Go and see it!

Victor I — Google review

The view was stunning! The store has many cool things to look at, my dog got to come in with us but the hand made milkshakes…absolutely the best I’ve had since childhood. They were so good in fact, we stopped back by on our way back home from our vacation. Well worth the visit!

Anita P — Google review

Big walker look out is a little bit of a drive off the beaten path… But it is a spectacular view from the top of the tower! It’s the middle tower with maybe 10 or 12 stories of wood on metal stairs, safety rails, and mashing to make you feel a little more comfortable as you walk up to the top.If you’re scared of heights, this may not be the thing for you because there’s a whole Lotta open error around the middle structure for you to look out and through as you make the climb to the top.Additionally, while the tower seems very strong, it does move a bit while people are hiking up and down the stairs. I think it was kind of thrilling your mileage may vary. The view from the top of the tower is spectacular! You can see beautiful forests for tens of miles in every direction.People go up the tower year-round I understand… Coming in the winter is when the air is clearest and therefore you can see the farthest. The only two times you cannot go up the tower during regular hours is when there is too much ice on it and when there are electrical storms. There’s a convenience store that sells the tickets and has many gifts and treats and snacks and food… Good assortment in a really nice man behind the register to help you get what you needAdults cost eight dollars… Kids cost six.

Aj S — Google review

I thought it was ok. If you have vertigo or are afraid of heights you might want to think twice about this. I'm usually ok with heights but honestly my body was freaking out a little. It is a climb, but if you take it a step at a time instead of 2 steps at a time it's not that bad. The views from up top are amazing!

This was recommended to us at the welcome center just over the border so we made the side trip. What a cute little shop! The kids got a free ice cream, my husband climbed the tower, we got some kitschy photos and souvenirs. We also tried hot dogs with coleslaw on them which were good and now I wonder why i never tried it before. Staff was super friendly and patient with my kids who wanted to pay for their own stuff.Would go back again (but I still won't go up that tower!) when it's warmer!Cute photo ops even if you don't climb the tower!

Cool spot. Great views. I really wanted to climb the old fire tire but they seemed to have closed early for the day. Got there around 5:40PM on Sunday. Still a cool view point. Should have called ahead of time.

Ryan W — Google review

Amazing views from atop of the tower. You have to pay $8 to climb it though and the tower is kinda sketchy. Must have been structurally sound a few decades ago but it‘s swaying a lot and some of the boards are rotting.

Lucas03 — Google review

Worth the drive up. The view is spectacular from the top of the lookout tower worth the 8 dollars. The store is very nice and lots of fun souvenirs to look at

It's an awesome little country store, gift shop and visitor center. The view was breathtaking. It was exceptionally nice that they had some local talent playing music.

Live folk & country music at an open-air theater in mountain foothills with nearby hiking trails.

What a phenomenal facility! Gorgeous grounds right on the Blue Ridge Parkway, exceptional free live music, educational museum with impressive collection of artifacts.

Easily accessible from the blue ridge parkway, it was a nice stop to hear some traditional American music. The volunteers perform from noon to 3pm everyday. We stayed for 1hour and enjoyed their passion about the music.

The Blue Ridge Music Center is a stop along the Blue Ridge Parkway near Galax VA. It is a combination Visitor center, museum, and music venue. During the summer they have music daily. And they have music events the pupil the year.We thoroughly enjoyed the music and had a wonderful picnic lunch. We’ve started going old school and packing a cooler! Great museum, covering local music and it's evolution and impact in American music.

Bracken S — Google review

A gem of the parkway. We especially enjoyed the demonstration of the science behind stringed music instruments. The museum was well presented. We enjoyed a great breezeway bluegrass concert as well. The trails around the music center are not to be missed as well.

Jason G — Google review

Very pleased with our recent Saturday visit here. Well-provisioned museum staffed by very knowledgeable and personable volunteers and Rangers. Special shout-out to Mr. Aubry who gave my two boys aged 3 and 6 a digestible and interactive distillation of the physics of stringed instruments, concluded by some lovely playing by him of his (personally) hand-crafted dulcimer. Really top-notch stuff. Regret that there were not (more?) recorded examples of shape-note singing.

A nice facility with friendly Music Center and Park Staff. Terrific talent if Shelton and Williams and The Kruger Brothers . What a treat to experience .

Laura T — Google review

What an amazing place! I wished I lived closer so I could stop in more often. The center is open from 10-5 but only live music - every day - from noon to 4. I ended up arriving shortly after 10am, then going to lunch in Mt. Airy, then coming back to hear some music around 1:00. I wish I had stayed the night near Mt. Airy then come up for the museum and music and not backtracked. There are also some trails around and a huge outdoor stage, and large bathrooms. The shop sells music, musical instruments, and more standard souvenir things. Make sure to push the buttons to hear the music in the museum! And play with the two big screens - there is a lot of fun stuff to see and hear.

Sara W — Google review

Great venue. Bring your own chairs. If you do buy season tickets, some people may be staying in front of you in front of the stage.

Love this little gem of a place tucked just off the parkway. Beautiful views of the fall foliage, great music, too. Friendly staff, rangers and volunteers.

If you're headed down the Blue Ridge Parkway near Fancy Gap and you're a fan of traditional Appalachian music, the Blue Ridge Music Center is an absolute must-see. Set amidst the stunning backdrop of the Blue Ridge Mountains, the center hosts live music performances daily throughout the summer, featuring talented musicians and bands steeped in the region's rich musical legacy. But that's not all - visitors can also explore the center's interactive museum, which offers insights into the history and evolution of Appalachian music, as well as the region's unique cultural traditions. Plan a visit and soak up the sights and sounds of the Blue Ridge Music Center for a truly memorable experience.

Charles C — Google review

Beautiful center located right off the Blue Ridge Parkway. The staff is very helpful, explaining the different sections of the center, as well as any exhibits and/or events they have. While we were there, a band was playing bluegrass music. It was very enjoyable listening to them play. They also had a moonshine exhibit that was curated by Ferrum College. The main attraction at the center is the bluegrass history exhibit. They have a great deal of artifacts and the history is fascinating.I highly suggest planning an hour or two to visit the Blue Ridge Music Center.

Stefan K — Google review

Beautiful location! Love the open air atmosphere! Come early so you can get a good seat. It was drizzling and a little cold when I went, so not the best way to experience this venue, but it was still a very cool, peaceful venue that I would enjoy visiting again. Make sure to bring something to sit on!

Warren T — Google review

We stopped at the afternoon jam session. There was a dozen great musicians playing bluegrass and gospel. They taught flat-footing, which came in handy later at the Floyd Country store!

Bryan G — Google review

I've been to the Blue Ridge Music Center a few times for the museum and breezeway music, which Ive thoroughly enjoyed. My wife, granddaughter, and I went to the Steep Canyon Rangers show and it was an amazing experience! The venue is perfect, the staff was extremely friendly, the food options were great, and the show was wonderful! We will definitely be visiting again!

Jason T — Google review

READ THE FINE PRINT... There is a tiny link before check out that you should read before making a purchase. Their policy is they don't refund ticket purchases, regardless of circumstances. We purchased tickets and less than 24 hours later had to cancel, and they are not willing to work with us. Very disappointing.

Mel R — Google review

If you are on the Blue Ridge Parkway, don't miss this stop! It was a real treat to sit and listen to these musicians. The group was super friendly. Invited questions from the audience, and just really had a passion for playing and singing. We found the Blue Ridge Music Center by chance and loved it so much, we went back the next day. There's a museum inside the center with exhibits about the history of "Hill-Billy" music. I enjoyed seeing the instruments and learning where this music originated. There's also a nice store for unique gifts and clean restrooms.

Tammy Q — Google review

Take a break & stretch your legs and stop by the Blue Ridge Music Center. A great place to read about the music and to listen to the music.

Mick B — Google review

Excellent visit. Two seniors visited the Blue Ridge Music Center on a Sunday in early June and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The center is open from 12 to 5 on Sundays with live local music from at least 12 to 3. The band we listened to played from 12 to 4, not leaving us much time to go through the actual museum. They were excellent. A stop well worth your time.

Fine dining restaurant

Upscale bistro at Shelton Vineyards offering diverse seasonal American fare paired with house wines.

Fantastic! Had dinner last night with another couple. Donna our waitress was great! The food , service and atmosphere are first-class ! A very relaxed dinner with friends! We have been here several times in the past during our visit to Shelton Vineyard!

BZ — Google review

Shelton is gorgeous first off! We had reservations at the Harvest Grill and it was a fantastic meal! We didn’t let the drunk people beside of us ruin it - they had definitely had too much to drink when you’re stumbling through the restaurant and can’t find your friends and having to hold onto chairs- so aside from that- the ambiance of the restaurant was 10/10 and the food was delicious. My favorite wine was the dry rosé!After the meal we went over to the tasting room and enjoyed a flight of 5 wines. They had cute items for sale as well as chocolates. We really enjoyed our visit and would come back again.

Solid lunch at Shelton Vineyards. Attended a company function here and would absolutely return. Try the collard green / pulled pork egg rolls or house made pimento cheese.

Uhland M — Google review

We went for my birthday. The food was great as well as the service. Our server Adrianne B was wonderful. This was our 1st time, and there was a little issue with a part of our food, but it was taken care of promptly. Being a vegetarian, it was nice to have several options. We will be back in a few months for our anniversary.

Daveen F — Google review

We enjoy the atmosphere and wine at Shelton Vineyards but the Harvest Grill continues to be disappointing. We reserved a table there for Mother's Day lunch. The hostess and waitress were friendly and accommodating and the atmosphere there was wonderful. For Mother's Day, a fixed menu with ample appetizers, main course, and dessert options was offered. We were excited with the food selections after reading the descriptions. The food was highly disappointing. The chicken marsala was nothing more than dry baked chicken on the bone. No tenderized chicken breast and no marsala sauce. The broccoli with cheddar cheese sauce was served sans any cheese and the brie potatoes had no brie cheese. The Brussel sprouts were tasty but soft and overcooked, the pork was mostly just pork fat that should have been trimmed away, and the beef was also overcooked. We ate at 1:30 so there was no reason for the food to be so poor and vastly different than described on the menu. The menu descriptions and the actual food were vastly different. BTW, our last meal at Harvest Grill - a chicken salad sandwich last summer during a concert event - resulted in food poisoning. We will continue to enjoy the winery but will skip the Harvest Grill in the future.

Unfortunately I arrived at the same time as a party of ten. My waitress was so tied up with this group that her other tables got ignored. Also the party of 10 backed up the kitchen so my dinner took over 2 hrs. The food was good and I’d come back next time I’m in town. I recommended visiting this restaurant.I don’t recommend the devil triangle the texture was weird. Everything else I had tonight was good.

Mike D — Google review

Food was phenomenal! I had the halibut with brussel sprouts and pasta that literally melted in my mouth that was the special.. wow! My husband had the crab cake with brussel sprouts and he loved it as well. We even finished with the buttermilk pie which was the perfect way to finish an already amazing meal! Truly memorable!

Jess G — Google review

We have enjoyed the Shelton experience for decades. The Harvest Grill has been hit or miss over the years but our experience today is a rare low. My wife made a reservation from the car during our drive back from New England. When the reservation was taken, our name was written incorrectly. When I checked in, the hostess made an issue of the difference in the spelling. Unfortunately I was unable to “guess” what was in their computer. She turned the computer around to show me that my wife had apparently misspelled her own name. After we were seated the manager asked my wife if we had made a reservation as I apparently could not be trusted to know our names. Strike three, I’ll not darken their threshold again.

Tracy T — Google review

We have a made a point to come here everytime we're in the area because it's always been an amazing experience. Tonight was ok, not as great as past experiences. Did not enjoy the crab cake. They did accommodate a different side as I didn't want fingerlings with duck fat. Farmers' Market risotto was decent, brusselsprouts were very hard though. Mushroom soup was good. Bread service was nice with accompaniments.

We visited Shelton Vineyards on Friday Nov 17. We ate at the restaurant. Amanda was our server. It was an exceptional experience! The ambience was warm and inviting. The food and wine were delicious. The service was superb. Amanda was courteous, pleasant and extremely attentive to our needs. Amanda made sure that we were very satisfied. She went above and beyond to take care of us during our time at the restaurant. We'll definitely be back and would love to have Amanda as our server again.

Do not get the BLT!!! I ordered a change from the pimento cheese BLT to cheddar. Both came out with burnt toast. 18 bucks you get unevenly burnt toasted bread. You will get one slice of cheddar cheese melted, with no mayo? One supper thin sliced tomato, you couldn't find it in the sandwich. You will also get one slice of lettuce and maybe two slices of bacon. They put it in the middle of the toast, leaving two inches of dry burnt toast to eat around the filling. You will get four small bites, from the middle of the sandwich. That's it, how the heck do you screw up a BLT? All for 18 bucks, you can get the dry cardboard BLT. The chef should have never let those sandwiches leave that kitchen. The waitress was five star, and comped us with dessert. She was horrified with what we got. We gave her a great tip, however the kitchen should find someone who knows how to make a big stuffed nicely toasted BLT worthy of 18 bucks. Here is a thought YouTube it, you will be able to come up with some created ideas.

Cool spot with beautiful old style decor. The service was fantastic!! We had Kim as our server and she did the best job taking care of us!The charcuterie was too notch, as well as the bread with the butter and jam plate. I think we would have all been happy with that.We all got a different meal so we could try everything. One filet mignon, one carbonara, one pork loin and one beef tips. I had the filet. It was good. The sides were a bit lacking in flavor but did taste fresh. The pork loin was the winner at the whole table. It had great taste and the accompaniments went well with it. The other two dishes were pretty boring. The music was great but it ended at 7:30. On Valentine's day! We couldn't believe it. So most of our dinner was quiet. It felt odd. Not sure why it ended that quickly but it was disappointing.Overall it was a fun experience that gave us the opportunity to dress up and have a good time. Not the best food in the world though.

The atmosphere is good but the food menu is very limited for vegetarian. Tried mushroom stuffed raviolis, the sauce was watery and taste was pungent.Ordered nachos but most of it was undercooked. Would not recommend for food.

Very nice restaurant. Staff is very friendly and helpful!!! My server, Adrienne, was amazing!!!! The butternut squash ravioli with pancetta croutons, sage brown butter and apple butter on top of wilted kale was absolutely delicious!!!!!!! The views on the patio are beautiful!

Tracy B — Google review

Presentation and flavors were top notch. Spinach was perfect but the chicken in my main dish was dry and they overcooked the beans. Mind you I ate everything because the flavors were very well done.

The filet and halibut are outstanding. I also enjoyed the Caesar salad and the Spanish egg rolls. Tonight was my second time dining at Harvest Grill and both times it has been a great experience. Benson was my server on both occasions and he is an absolute dream. He is very knowledgeable about the menu and the array of wines they offer. He is excellent with pairing suggestions and leading you through each course.

What a lovely evening at Harvest Grill at Shelton Vineyards. A very diverse menu with tons of options (both my children found something good!) We ate on the patio and had their charcuterie board, strawberry Bibb salad, pimento cheese fondue— our main courses were also delicious. Highly recommend!

Had a really nice tour of the winery, a wine sampling and finished it off with an excellent dinner at the grille the food was amazing. Great atmosphere and ambiance. The server we had was very attentive and helpful. Also was able to bring our own bottle of wine we purchased at the winery and had that with dinner which was much more affordable than buying a bottle at the restaurant!

Josh H — Google review

Lovely place to have dinner. Pork ribeye was delicious cheese plate appetizer was pleasant crab cakes we're good.

Guy D — Google review

Came for anniversary before our tasting. Food was incredible, as was the service. My husband had a pasta special and I had a twist on the Caesar salad with blackened chicken. Everything tasted great! Not a single complaint. We sat outside and the weather was gorgeous. The dessert we got was a pound cake with chocolate sauce and port soaked cherries. It was heavenly. We will definitely be back!

Ashley R — Google review

Servers all very nice and accommodating. I had a dinner size Caesar with a Crab Cake. Delicious. Crab cake, not much breading. Chef made a gluten free perfect dinner for my spouse. Great tasting grilled Ribeye steak, perfectly cooked squash, mixed veg. Then a Grits bowl with chives, cheddar, unique great flavor.

Larry S — Google review

This place used to have great food a couple years ago but now it is just average. The last 3 times I have visited the dishes I had ordered are just ok! The menu options are very attractive but the quality of the food don't match the description at all.Today I ordered the duck with risotto. Duck was bland, not crispy at all and the risotto was terrible, not creamy at all.The server was really nice but the hostess was rude.I don't think we will be back.

Hiking Trails

This 57-mile-long park with a trail for hiking, biking & horseback riding, plus fishing & camping.

Love coming to this state park, I do a lot of trail riding with my horse and horse friends. BUT… out of all the state parks I’ve ever been to(a lot) this State park has to be hands-down the most rudest bicyclist I have ever been around. They have no respect for your horse. They do not let you know when they are coming up behind you. They will ride right up behind your horse. If you’re coming towards the bike rider's they will not stop … some will slow down but Very few will stop. There is no signs along the trail, saying everything must yield to the horse and apparently people on the trail don’t know that or they just don’t care.. Be careful if you are on a horse!

Beautiful park by the New River. A nice campground for tent camping. Lots of shade so it's cooler.Nice gift shop with restrooms.

Foster falls campground is really nice if you like primitive camping. Most spots are beside the river. We did a lot of fishing and hanging out in the water. We will come back again.

Incredibly beautiful. Ate dinner at the historic Foster Falls Inn. Beautiful green pastoral setting with rolling hills and trees. There is a trail on a former train track that we hiked a few years ago. We loved the views— esp the trestle across the New River.

Great trail by the river. Awesome views! Plenty of history. Ample parking. Nearby is the Jackson Ferry shot tower, a piece of history right off the trail. Trail is well laid out and easy to maneuver. Includes info boards along the way.

We love this rail trail. It’s never too busy and there is so much beautiful scenery. Make sure to bring your own snacks and water because there is very limited provisions on the trail. Still, our favorite rail trail.

Jeanette N — Google review

Such an awesome river to see! It flows north instead of south, and was extremely beautiful to see. It's one of the oldest rivers in the country, so the historic value of the river is pretty neat!

Great trail we e biked 22 miles, saw lots of deer ,great veiws, folks on horseback ,loved the austinville tunnel

This is a beautiful campground. Walk in sites with wagons provided to tote your items. Very peaceful and quiet. My only concern was the strong ammonia smell coming from the pit toilets. It burned my eyes every time I went in there. I've never experienced a pit toilet that smelled that strongly. I don't think it was the cleaning products, but rather the human waste.

This was a great way to spend 2 hours. See lots of friendly bikers and hikers. Nice 2 mile level walk from Galax to Cliffview.

Chris K — Google review

If you are a Texan, this is a required detour off I-77 as there is a small park dedicated to "the father of Texas" Stephen F. Austin. If you are not a Texan, it is still a very pretty stop along the peaceful New River

Jeff P — Google review

Located at the halfway mark of the New River Trail, this park is the formal gateway to one of the best rail trails in the United States. The gift shop has snacks, drinks, clothes and other fun items. The park is well maintained with historic buildings and quick access to the New River itself. We ended each day of bicycling with a refreshing soak in the shallow and inviting river making for what can be described as a "perfect summer day". We hope to ride this trail every summer!

Wind S — Google review

Beautiful long and well maintained gravel trail. Suggest starting at the New River State Park just south of Fort Griles. Then you can go either east or west taking in all of the history of the region. Enjoy.

David P — Google review

This is a remarkably well-maintained and beautiful trail. I rode it end-to-end with my 8-year-old in late September 2024. We camped in the Cliffview Campground near Galax. On the first day, we set up camp and then rode 8 miles round-trip into Galax and back for dinner. On the second day, I arranged for Timmy at New River Outdoor Adventures to shuttle us (and our bikes) to the trailhead in Pulaski, then we rode the 45 miles back to his shop in Fries. On the third day, we rode the 17-mile round-trip from the campground to Fries Junction and back.We were very lucky that 100% of the trail was open during the weekend of September 20 when we were there. There were maintenance closures at a couple trestles before we were there, and I'm reading online about more maintenance closures after we left. I strongly recommend that you call the park office to find out current/accurate information about trail closures, and don't depend on information that you might find on their website and/or facebook.Although there are signs everywhere about bears, we never saw any. There are pit toilets every 10 miles or so, picnic tables and benches more often than that, and more extensive facilities at Foster Falls including a snack/gift shop. There are some hills near the trailhead in Pulaski, for the first 10 miles or so until you get to the New River. Then it's a very gentle uphill grade (like, less than a quarter percent) along the river for the next 35 miles into Fries. If you're reading this and wondering whether you can do it or not, my 8-year-old had no problem with it - although we do a lot of riding. The scenery and peaceful quiet of this trail and surrounding area definitely make this a must-visit. Many thanks to the park rangers and local volunteers that make it all possible!

Matt L — Google review

This trail is easily accessible and pancake flat. There are many points of interest along the way.We have biked this trail several times starting in Galax, Foster Falls and this time in Austinville.

Superb, well maintained, beautiful scenery, gorgeous river views and you take it all in on foot, bicycle, or horse.

We had done the creeper trail and a friend told me about this trail. It was cold but great weather when we were there. It warmed up to the high 40s low 50s. We will be back to ride the rest of the trail. It is 57 miles long so we didn't get it all done in two days. Beautiful scenery, deer running around it was great. On the creeper coming down you can get away with not a lot of pedaling. Be prepared to pedal both ways here. Not hard just pedaling. We loved it!!

Bucolic gravel trail of 57 miles between Galax and Pulaski, Va. Multiple parking areas as noted on TrailLink app. Free parking in lot off Firehouse Road in Fries. Food and beverage accessible from trail in Fries and Galax. Mostly shaded. Access to river. A fave for biking. Ebikes allowed.

The Andy Griffith Museum, located in Mount Airy, NC, is a 2,500-square-foot space dedicated to the life and career of the late actor Andy Griffith. Founded by his lifelong friend Emmett Forrest, the museum boasts the world's largest collection of Griffith memorabilia. Visitors can explore items from The Andy Griffith Show and Matlock sets as well as personal pieces like a rocking chair made by Griffith's father.

Such a wonderful museum. I visited with my Mother-in-law, Sister-in-law, and a great family friend. All 4 of us love and or grew up watching and still all these years later watch the Andy Griffith show. This museum was cherry on top of our visit to Mt Airy. We definitely recommend everyone who loves the show to visit the museum.

Jessica S — Google review

Well worth the price of admission. A lot of memorabilia from the Andy Griffith show & movies he was in during his career. Admission is around $10 per person & open 7 days a week. We visited early in the morning & there was a small group of people there at the time. Takes about an hour to see all the exhibits.

Ben T — Google review

I think it was 8 dollars to get In per person which isn't too bad. I expected the museum to be bigger honestly but you did learn quite a bit about his life. Giving it 4 stars because it's kinda confusing on how to get there from the parking lot. Also the sidewalks are slippery even without rain so be careful.

Janice M — Google review

Perhaps the number one thing to do in Mount Airy and we really enjoyed it. Less than an hour to tour through this small museum, watching the clips from movies and TV shows, viewing the exhibits and reading through the explanations of all the memorabilia. Lots to see!I think it's best to come early just after they open as it's not a very large space and it does get crowded. And don't miss the Siamese Twins Museum across the street - there is a combined admission.

Bruce K — Google review

I enjoyed this museum. Should have been a little bigger. Great price of about $8 per person. Loved what I saw but the layout could have been a little better. Good walkways for handicapped individuals. Love Andy so I loved seeing this museum devoted to him. Also went to the gas station and the jail. Great experience that I would do again.

Dee T — Google review

This is a great place to visit. They have all kinds of items that were used in the Andy Griffith show as well as items from his movies. It also has things from Andy's childhood.

Dwight F — Google review

Great walk through the shows history. It was also nice to learn more in depth things about the cast. The items in the museum are well kept. There are numerous displays.

Ive been here twice, always been a huge fan of andy griffith and mount airy. I love the town and i absolutely love the museum so much

Taylor T — Google review

I love this museum. It was not very expensive and had a steady stream of customers but not crowded. Memorabilia from Andy’s life and many nice items to purchase at the gift counter.

Adam S — Google review

My son gifted me with a trip to Mayberry for Mother's Day! We stayed at 711 East Haymore Andy's childhood home for the weekend. The museum was very well organized and had actual clothing worn by the Stars of the show. The cost to get in is very reasonable at $8 and change. Be sure and stop by and take your picture with Andy and Opie's statue out front!

Teresa K — Google review

Nice tribute to Andy and the show, so much history, did you know Don Knotts won 6 Emmy's for his role? make sure you get the combo pass and visit the newly opened Siamese Twins museum.

Mark M — Google review

Great place, husband loves the show and still watches it regularly!! So glad we found it on our travels, it was so fun!!

A tremendous tribute to Andy Griffith. Plenty to see, and the admission price was fair.If you're an Andy fan, you definitely want to visit!

The Andy Griffith Museum is a small, but extremely well done museum dedicated to the life of Andy Griffith. It includes many artifacts from his childhood through his adult career. Some are more esoteric like a year book from when he was a music/drama teacher in the local high school. There are lots of things from his movies, Matlock, The Andy Griffith show, and his musical career. It is a relatively small space but one of the better organized and presented displays we have visited. It was under $10 a person when we visited. There was a steady stream of people for a Tuesday afternoon but it wasn’t crowded. There is a second exhibit area down the stairs in another building (The Surry Arts Council) which focuses more on the town and other characters including the career of Betty Lynn who played Thelma Lou on the show.

Jim D — Google review

Small museum packed with information regarding Andy Griffith’s life. So much lovely memorabilia from Andy’s movies & the Andy Griffith Show. There is free parking in the lot next to the museum and theater.

Took a day trip to Mount Airy & we just had to visit the Andy Griffith Museum. As children we loved his show so this was a must for my husband and myself. We made a day of it and went out to eat & enjoyed downtown Mount Airy.

JOSEPHINE G — Google review

Whats not to love about Mayberry! To walk in and see about how and where Andy Griffith grew up and made his way to the big screen is interesting and gives a whole new meaning to our small town. This is Andy's home town and you will see how much this played into the writing of the show. There is also a museum below with more information on the town itself. Small museum but packed with information.

Points of Interest & Landmarks

Floyd’s City Barber Shop, located at 129 N Main St, Mount Airy, NC 27030, has been a beloved establishment since its founding in 1929. It is still a fully operational barber shop and welcomes visitors to experience the nostalgia of sitting in the same chair once frequented by Andy Griffith. The shop is adorned with original pieces, artwork, photos, and memorabilia that capture the essence of its rich history. Visitors can also schedule appointments for services.

This by far was my favorite stop in Mt. Airy. The photos on the wall from throughout the years says a lot. Getting to see the antique barber chairs was amazing and meeting Floyd's grandson. He is an awesome man and educator. My son got one of the best haircuts he's ever gotten at Floyd's. So thankful for visiting and the experience. We also bought some merchandise while here that was very reasonably priced.

Lisa B — Google review

We enjoyed visiting your shop today and meeting you! Thank you for sharing the story about your dad and his story. He would be proud that you are continuing in his footsteps!

Awesome, Bill is such a wonderful southern Gentleman. Easy going and has a lot of stories especially about his dad Floyd.

My husband and I took our son to Floyd’s for his very first hair cut yesterday and while it was a very bitter sweet moment for me, Jeff took his time and did an amazing job with our little guy! Thank you guys so much for giving us an amazing memory!

Lillie B — Google review

I was a bit worried coming here considering it’s such a huge tourist attraction… I thought they would be interested in tourism than actually cutting hair… I stepped into the barber shop a little afternoon, I told the man what I wanted and he went to work… probably the best cut I’ve had all year and it’s December… fantastic service, great haircut and just an all around good experience. I’ll definitely be back.

Terry S — Google review

Experience of a lifetime!Jeff gave me a trim, while Bill (son of the original owner of Floyd's) gave me some insights as to the history of the shop, and how it was the basis of Floyd's Barbershop in the Andy Griffith Show. When my haircut was done, Bill invited me to set in the barber chair his Dad used to use, which also was the chair Andy got his haircut in in real life.If you look at the picture of Bills Dad, he looks alot like what Floyd looked like in the tv show!!Even if you don't need a haircut, stop in and sit a spell.... (tell em Bob from Kansas City says howdy!)

A fun Mayberry stop. We really enjoyed stopping here and talking with the barber.

When we were on Main Street in Mt Airy (Mayberry) I had the opportunity to get my hair cut at Floyd’s Barber Shop and in the same chair Andy used to sit in. As someone that grew up watching Andy Griffith this is one of those bucket list things I can check off. What an awesome experience. If you’re ever in the area at least stop by and enjoy the nostalgia of it all.

Christopher T — Google review

I went when I lived there and was working at cross creek apparel or Russell athletic. Great atmosphere and a great haircut. I visited more than twice.

Duey J — Google review

You should definitely step in if on Main Street in Mt. AIRY. there are so many pictures, including historic photos of men that played the part of Floyd the barber. It is set up just like the barber shop from the Andy Griffith show. You can even get a haircut. Tourists are welcome!

April W — Google review

The gentleman was sharing his father's legacy as a barber. It was great stop that shared with my friends back in Washington DC. A couple are even looking to make a pilgrimage there.

Rick B — Google review

Great experience and friendly personality. Mr Floyd is open to tell stories about his dad and Mr. Griffith and take pictures with or without a haircut.

It is always a joy to come to Floyd’s city Barbershop when we visit Mt Airy. It is so fun to listen to story’s from Jeff and Bill two wonderful gentlemen. The barbershop if filled with so much nostalgia and memories from so many people who have visited the walls are full of so many pictures. I always get a haircut from Jeff and he does a wonderful job. Thank you gentlemen for everything you do.Jon and Sherri

Meeting Bill and hearing his stories about his father and Andy Griffith made my wife and I understand why they would base the show on Andy's home town. Mt Airy NC was truly worth visiting.

Had a great time talking with Bill about the history of this shop and that of his dad. Stop in and say hello. Make sure to get a cut from Jeff while you are there.

Hiking & rock climbing on iconic, 2,400-ft. Pilot Mountain with a separate riverfront area.

Lovely trail and easy to follow summit look outs. Beautiful views though you can still see some of the damage from the fire.Beware the peak loop if you are not good at stairs. While it is technically a "trail" it's almost exclusively stairs and some of them are quite large (some steps were higher than my knees and I needed help up)

Debi S — Google review

Great mountain date with the hubby Sunday.10/20/2024. Been wanting to view it during the fall for a few years and glad we got to do so. Happy we could get to the peak. Lovely view. God is good! 🙌🏼

A great state park in the foothills of the Blue Rich Mountains. Pilot Mountain is truly impressive. You can drive up the neighboring mountain to the summit. There is a parking lot at the top and there are numerous viewing platforms for impressive photos. At the same time, Pilot Mountain is a paradise for hikers and climbers and you can go on great tours on the many hiking trails.

Stephan S — Google review

Had a beautiful day on this mountain!! Views were breathtaking! It was a little confusing on getting up the mountain. They only open the gate limited times per day. I would suggest driving up. There is only one transport bus, and it runs every 20 min. So we waited almost an hour each way. They were doing the best they could, and we appreciated them for it! But definitely go if you are in the area!

Angie P — Google review

Nice park with great views. It can get crowded on weekends, as you would imagine. There are many hiking trails of varying difficulties. The hike along Pilot Knob is under a mile, fairly easy, and has nice views of the surrounding area. There is camping although I haven't camped here yet.Looking forward to visiting again.

Stefan K — Google review

The pilot mountain is such a unique structure to have formed naturally and has an aura of its own. There are various hiking options to the mountain and for those who do not want to hike much, can also drive up to the parking available near the summit. The views from the top are breathtaking and if you happen to do the little pinnacle trail around the summit, you get to have a 360 degree view of the valleys with the beautiful rock formations and the well preserved flora and fauna on the top. Even the air around the mountain feels different, it’s just so serene and pristine! I had an incredible experience visiting this place.

Saya ( — Google review

We parked at the bottom of the mountain at the visitors center and began our hike up to the top following the blue trail markers. The sign at the bottom said it was 3.5 miles each way. My watch showed that was pretty darn close, since our round trip was approximately that. It's a good hike up to the top. Some windy trails, but not too difficult overall. Some steeper elevations at times. But it was a nice, quiet hike, as it appears that most people just like to drive up to the top, park, take pictures and then drive back down. That made the trails less populated for us, which was nice. The views from the top (and close to the top) are gorgeous. I loved the signage about tyke surrounding areas and the birds to keep an eye out for.Ultimately, always a great experience. I love that they have bathrooms at the bottom and the top of the mountain and a water filtration device at the bottom now. Nice touch for all of us thirsty hikers!!

Shanah B — Google review

Nice park to walk in. The trail around the knob is an easy, well-worn path. There are a handful of steps leading to the wraparound. Once you reach the split, you walk either direction around the knob ending back at the split to backtrack to the parking lot.The nicest thing about this trail are the overhangs. On the hottest days, it feels like an air-conditioned breeze blowing through them. We have found the first couple clockwise to be great spots to grab a bite and relax. Just always take out what you bring in

Jimmy S — Google review

My family and I absolutely loved this park. We hiked to the top from the visitor's center at the very bottom. I'm glad that we did that for our first time. It gave us a pretty good sense of accomplishment when we completed the trail. The walk around the Pilot's Knob is definitely the best part of the hike. Our personal highlight was a visit from a Peregrine Falcon while we were snacking and resting in the shade. This was our 5th state park, and it was far cooler than I thought it was going to be.For those who don't want to do a big hike, you can drive close to the top. There are very easily accessible views from the top parking lot, and the Pilot's Knob loop is not far either. The visitor center has a nice little shop, and there was a friendly park ranger who told us all about a few birds we saw on the trail. We loved this park and hope to visit again soon. Just be aware that the hike from the bottom near the visitor center is quite a haul.

Pilot Mountain State Park is a stunning destination for nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts. The park’s iconic, towering peak offers breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape, making it a perfect spot for hiking, photography, or simply enjoying the beauty of North Carolina's natural scenery. The trails are well-maintained and cater to a variety of skill levels, with options for both casual walkers and more experienced hikers. One of the highlights is the Jomeokee Trail, which circles around the summit and provides incredible panoramic views. The Little Pinnacle Overlook is another must-see spot, offering one of the best vantage points in the park. For those who enjoy rock climbing, Pilot Mountain also provides challenging routes with rewarding views at the top.The park is well-equipped with amenities, including picnic areas, a visitor center, and camping facilities for those looking to extend their stay. Whether you're planning a day trip or a weekend getaway, Pilot Mountain State Park offers a peaceful escape into nature, rich with opportunities for adventure and relaxation. Highly recommended for anyone seeking a memorable outdoor experience!

Amazing! Great hike & gorgeous views. Already want to go back, especially in the fall. This was recommended & did not disappoint. It’s a nice hike. Very easy & mild climb. We parked at the top, but if you want a longer trek, park at the lower parking lot & hike up. It was perfect weather & temp. Bathrooms are nice & clean too. There were families with younger kids & dogs too so it’s definitely family friendly. We saw a few groups of rock climbers…pretty cool to watch! The photos & videos don’t do it justice, but hope it helps!

H R — Google review

While kind of looking out of place in a relatively flat landscape, Pilot Mountain is a beautiful natural wonder. It's a free park to visit and once you make the long, snaking drive to the top you will be greeted with a stunning view of central North Carolina. While handicap accessible, it is a bit of a hike so be prepared. And have good brakes for the drive back down!

Chad H — Google review

Hiked around the larger kn9b. There were a hood amount of steps but it wasn't very difficult. A short .08 miles trail rated moderate. It was worth the breathtaking views!

Alicia J — Google review

We tested out the Grimestone trail. We had a great time. You can also drive up or take the shuttle to the top of the peak. There are a good variety of trails for all different lengths and skill levels. Great way to spend a Saturday!

Taylor W — Google review

Wonderful place to hike with family and friends. There are many trail heads. Some are easy and some are strenuous. You can choose the route you would like to. We hiked grind stone trail ( blue circle) and went around the pilot knob( red square) and returned through yellow circle( 3 bears gully) which finally connects to grind stone trail. It was worth the half day of hike. The view is beautiful up there. We met a 84 years lady who was so energetic and said she hikes the knob every Sunday. God bless her with many more years of energy. There are river side trails which are easy to do with small kids. We will do that next time. Totally, this place is a must go.

Archana E — Google review

Such a nice place and longgggg hiking trails. Ended up trekking about 8 miles round trip up and down the mountain. Not for the weak but you can drive up to the top of you choose. Also have drinking fountains and bathrooms at the top. Amazing view even on the top part of the trail before you get to the top. Mostly up hill hiking but went down twice as fast on the way down. Nicely cleared trail as well.

I've wanted to hike here for years, I made it happen today. It was a beautiful hike!I took mountain Trail to Grindstone and then to pilot knob (hiked halfway then turned back because a storm was moving in)It was a long hike but easy elevation gains circling the mountain. Here are some photos I took with my phone to share with ya.

Beautiful spot. Nice panoramic views from the top. You can drive to the summit (about 2 miles) if the parking is available or There is a shuttle that takes you to the summit from the visitor center. I saw people hiking as well.

Aravinda S — Google review

A beautiful place to visit year round. Folks mostly prefer to hike around the trails but it's a long way to the top. A nice winding road to the top which is more than a mile long. There is a gate at the entrance which is closed when the parking lot at the top is full, you may have to wait roughly for an hour near visitor center. Visitor center is good stop before or after visit to the top of mountain. It has few things on display and a store to shop for memorabilia, staff is kind and helpful even though they get asked about same things over again. Facilities at top of mountain and near visitor center is decent.

Amit N — Google review

Beautiful area and an easy drive. The mountain that you view from is so quiet at the top. You don't get to climb or drive on Pilot Mtn. There used to be stairs, but those are no longer accessible. The Visitor Center is new with a few exhibits and nice facilities.

Michaelle N — Google review

Amazing place! I totally recommend stopping here if you’re traveling through! We drove up to the parking lot at the top of the mountain just in time for sunset, and it was well worth it! It was so gorgeous I didn’t want to leave! There’s also a picnic area, several overlooks and trails, it’s just an incredible 360 degree view even from the parking lot!

Daniel — Google review

It's absolutely stunning. Has hiking trails and bathrooms. If you're short on time, no problem, just drive up, take a snap, and be on your way.

Espers S — Google review

The area boasts a breathtaking landscape rich with natural beauty. It's the perfect spot to pause and take in the stunning vistas around you. Brightly colored wildflowers blanket the ground, swaying gently in the breeze alongside lush grasses that rustle softly. Meandering waterways reflect the sky, creating a serene atmosphere while towering trees provide shade and shelter for a variety of wildlife. Rocks, scattered throughout the terrain, add character and texture to the scene. The harmonious sounds of chirping birds and rustling leaves contribute to an overall sense of tranquility, making this place an oasis of peace and wonder. This mountain is flaunty without being pretentious for the surrounding landscape.

Reynolda House Museum of American Art is a stunning estate with well-maintained gardens that showcase American art spanning from 1755 to the present day, including rotating exhibitions. The mansion itself has an intriguing history and knowledgeable staff were on hand to answer any questions. Visitors can freely explore the home while docents offer insights into its historical significance. It's a fantastic local attraction that offers a great way to spend a few hours with family or as a solo adventure.

A lovely place to visit. The house was amazing to tour and learn more about the family. The gardens were beautiful, the national park award was well earned. The shopping area was very upscale, but the crepe place was wonderful.

I took my friends here to tour of the Reynolda House! They really enjoyed it!The Reynolda House, gardens and property are stunning! There is a lot of history here. The ladies at the front desk were very welcoming and friendly. If you cannot walk up or down the stairs, they do have an elevator! If you are visiting Winston-Salem, you need to stop here and tour the house and gardens.

We visit at least once a year and it's always a wonderful experience. Great, personable, helpful staff. I love that they rotate their exhibits and the art, furnishings, and artifacts in the house regularly. It makes every visit unique and special. We had a couple hours to kill and a friend suggested to art museum and gardens. This place was amazing. Students get in free to the museum and there is so much to see. If you are into art, architecture, design, or just old houses then this is the place for you to spend a couple hours. It was cool that they had not only the art but the history of the place and family.

I rate 3 stars as average and so maybe I’m being a little unfair. We did take the tour because it was closed. There are several shops and a restaurant on the property. The grounds and garden are nice. If I’m ever back this way again I’d try to get here earlier and catch the tour.

I visited the Reynolda House for the first time on Saturday, September 21st to view a painting in person for a paper I was working on in one of my art history classes. I was very impressed with the museum's vast art collection. It was bigger than I expected and was easy to navigate. As a Wake student, it was free to enter. I will definitely be returning!

Attended Christmas with the Reynolds family at 7:30pm. Docent and all the dressed up characters from the time were excellent. Enjoyed the organ Christmas music too. The treats at the end were a joke (apple cider and pocky chocolate covered sticks) as the staff were cleaning them up while we were there which I found rude. Why not make it a traditional treat served during this time or at least a holiday one?The home is lovely and the history interesting so I do recommend a trip!

The museum is worth a visit if you're in the area. You can spend a good deal of time here, especially walking around the garden and grounds. The museum itself is fairly priced for what it provides and it's worth asking about discounts since they offer several for admission. It was interesting to see something from the not so distant past and learn a bit more about the tobacco business.

Chateau Morrisette Winery located in the stunning Blue Ridge Mountains offers a relaxed dining experience with breathtaking views. The tasting room serves their signature Black Dog dry red wine and Dog Blue, a blend of riesling, Traminette, and Vidal Blanc. A restaurant with lunch options like cheese and charcuterie plates ($19) and burgers ($13 to $15), while dinner features more upscale dishes (mains $28 to $40).

We stopped by Chateau Morrisette on a tip from someone we met at another winery. We were not disappointed. Their wine is first class and the atmosphere is laid back but classy. The two pups made the whole experience fun. The family obviously takes great pride in their establishment and it shows.

Amy W — Google review

Lovely winery in a beautiful setting. Live music in the courtyard. The tasting room is beautiful and dog friendly! The host dog, Noble, is a stately black Lab who meanders through the space greeting four-legged and two-legged guests. There is even a "tasting bar" of treats for dogs. The wine is good - Archival XII and 2021 Chardonnay were our favorites. No, it's not what you can get in Napa but it's delicious and convenient for those of us on the East Coast. We also had lunch at the restaurant - service was very good, ambiance was great - beautiful views of the surrounding mountains (as you can see from the pictures the day we went wasn't very clear, but it was still pretty). Crab cake appetizer was very good, shrimp and grits were watery. But overall, we love this place and will be back.

Beautiful winery. Tucked a way right off the Blue Ridge Parkway in the mountains. Feel like your in France, not Virginia. Wine is outstanding. Fun for the entire family especially the doggy. Music, corn hole fun, excellent outdoor patio and live music. Must visit

Jay M — Google review

Food and location is worth the trip. Wines were decent. I prefer heavier reds than what they produce but they were still good. The whites seemed more enjoyable to me. Crisp, light and dry which were perfect for enjoying outdoors

Deb W — Google review

We love the wines at Chateau Morrisette but was disappointed when read that no outside picnics or food was allowed. While there, several groups of people brought their own food and ate. We tried making reservations at the restaurant but it was sold out. We planned ahead and ate at Mabry Mill Restaurant which was delicious. I recommend a food truck or don’t advertise no outside food and then allow people to do that.

Can say nothing but wonderful things about the restaurant at Chateau Morrisette! We had a late lunch and sat outside on the terrace. We started with the Winemaker’s Cheeseboard ($12) and then had the grilled chicken dish ($23) and the duck confit ($26) as our main dishes. All the food was excellent & our server Chris was very attentive. I will definitely be visiting again!

My friends and I had a wonderful experience! We had never been to a winery before so this was all new to us. We informed the lady who greeted us that was our first time at any sort of winery and that we didn’t have a lot of knowledge about the various wines or how tastings went. She was very kind, patient, and answered any questions we had. She explained each wine that we tried and helped us pick the sweetest ones for tasting. Her kindness and patience made this a great first experience and we will be returning!

Excellent wine, food, service, and scenery! Our dogs were treated so well! We sat inside/outside the restaurant and winery and every location was beautiful! Bring your pup! One of the best wineries in Virginia. The sprawling grounds are expertly maintained. As you exit your car, you walk up to the winery through a charming courtyard where you can enjoy the view and your wine. The wine tastings are not rushed and you may even have the owner (she is so very kind and informative) facilitate your tasting. We left with a case of wine, I mean, why not? They love dogs, so much so, that they are on their label. We did not eat at the restaurant but did walk through. Its on our return list!We will be back.10 stars.

I truly believe this place is actual heaven on earth. I loved every single thing about it. I would have thought I was at a Michelin star restaurant with the quality of the service! I can’t recall if the general manager’s name was Gundars or something similar but he was so wonderful. Incredibly thoughtful and accommodating. We sampled the red wines first (ended up buying two bottles of the black dog) then ate our appetizers. The Brussel sprouts were the best I’ve had in a long time. Then a flight of whites; my favorite was the 2021 oaked Chardonnay. I had the duck confit for dinner and thought it was perfect. So tender, so moist, it fell right off the bone. My mother in law enjoyed her shrimp and grits and my husband liked his pasta as well! They wished the onions were cooked longer in the French onion soup, but that was the only critique I heard at the table. For desert, we got a flight of the sweet wines (we LOVED Our Dog Blue and bought a bottle of that as well) and the chocolate torte which was also fantastic. And I haven’t even mentioned that we had three dogs with us! We haven’t been to this area before but I can guarantee we will be back specifically to return to Chateau Morrisette

I visited this vineyard in August 2013. The wines are superb and can hold their own with the best the world has to offer. I enjoyed sampling the cheapest to the more expensive. To sum up , I tested the good to the damned good. I also liked the architecture of the tasting room. Outside the table where being set, for a wedding. I hope and pray that the young couple are enjoying a long and joyous union.

We have enjoyed the wine for a couple of years but have never taken the opportunity to eat there! We decided that today, our birthday, we made it! From the stunning views, inside and out-to the friendly staff, our first impression was very good. We enjoyed the cheese balls and mussels for appetizers and the soup of the day (don’t remember the name) was delicious! I had the blackened salmon he had the burger with onion rings-outstanding! Our server, Sadie, was both knowledgeable and personable-a rare combination any more! She fielded every question with accuracy and charm! I highly recommend her! Thank you Chateau Morrisette for making our birthday so memorable! We will see you soon!!!

My girlfriend and I got a wonderful fact-filled tour from Amanda who was very friendly and informative. The grilled chicken with green beans was amazing, and so was the sweet potato ravioli at the restaurant. Additionally, we had a view of the mountains and especially liked the real flowers on our table. Everything we ordered was correct and prompt and one of the employees even took some pictures of us for us. The grounds were very scenic and it was like we were in France with the decoration and architecture. I really liked the gazebos outside to relax in.

I think I died and went to (dog) heaven! I'm not a huge wino, but we stumbled upon this place after a much needed break from hiking. Upon entering, we felt a little underdressed (it was a magical castle), but that seemed to go unnoticed. We were quickly greeted by the big dog himself and taken inside. We were able to sample a few wines before deciding on a favorite (which is hard considering they were all delicious). My toddler even got to sample their finest juice box. My girls were able to be their fun, playful selves while Mom and dad could kick back and enjoy a glass of white wine before it got warm. The customer service was phenomenal and the winery itself was beautiful. We will be back if we are ever in the area again.

We visited Chateau Morrisette on July 4th and were welcomed by a personal visit of the winery by owner Melissa Morrissette. Very interesting to understand the specifics of this Virginia winemaker. Then, she treated us with a wine tasting of 6 of their wines for about an hour so of course we purchased a case of our preferred ones. We had not booked at the restaurant because we were told it was not necessary but unfortunately it was fully booked and a reservation is required. Well, Melissa was able to squeeze us in for lunch and we enjoyed their gnocchis and raviolis (her son is the Chef at the restaurant) with a complimentary glass of their best selling red wine. Thank you Melissa for your kind welcome and we look forward to share our bottles with our friends and find Chateau Morrisette in Florida!

Food, experience, and vibe were all 10/10.Starting at the restaurant, Chris was our server, and he was ON IT. We had wine samples to start, and ended up getting a bottle of the Red Mountain Laurel to go with our lunch. We were able to walk around the Winery afterwards with what was left of our wine, and enjoyed some live Celtic music in the courtyard. Overall, a very relaxing and romantic experience!

Nature & Parks

Hanging Rock State Park is a stunning natural area with cliffs and plateaus, offering various outdoor activities such as rock climbing, lake fishing, swimming, camping and hiking. The hike to the top of the park requires proper preparation as it involves climbing up actual rocks with an elevation gain of 2000 ft. Visitors can enjoy breathtaking views at the top along with beautiful waterfalls. The park has a visitor center that provides basic amenities including bathrooms and water refill stations.

I have been on the trail that leads you up to hanging rock. I have to go back to the trails that have waterfalls. I am a bigger girl I definitely would say bring water. And maybe a walking stick. The beginning of the trail started out pretty good and easy. Then you come up to stairs which were not to horrible. Thereafter, you come up to more stairs that are steeper. If you have knee problems just be extra careful. I really enjoyed the view when we got to to the top. I thought I wasn’t going to make it however there are some benches along the way to take some breaks. I would also recommend to drink before hand so you don’t get muscle cramps. It’s worth the view but take it easy. Also you have to time it right to be sure you get back to your car and down the mountain before the sun sets. Have a great time!

I’ve lived in N.C. all my life and first time visiting HRSP. It has everything I love. The views are beautiful, there are waterfalls, streams, and a lake! If you want to picnic, this is the place to go! We hit it at peak leaf season and the colors were amazing. The trails are well maintained and marked. I will definitely be back! This is now one of my favorite State Parks!

Heather D — Google review

This is a beautiful park. The only reason I gave it four stars is because there is a lot of people there. It is more of a tourist trap than a serene location. The falls are very pretty but they are full of people that don’t know how to treat them. I would definitely recommend seeing it, just know what to expect when you go. They have a large visitors center and good maps. It definitely caters to more novice hikers. It was free to hike.

Bobby P — Google review

Totally worth the 2 hour drive from Raleigh. Ive been to this park a few times before but this was my first time coming to see sunset. Although there are so many options to hike, see waterfalls, swim, etc. my favorite is the Hanging Rock Trail. We made it to the parking lot in front of the visitor center around 5:30 pm. The trail to the hanging rock overlook begins opposite to the visitor center. The trail had this time changed a bit. Now it is 1.8 miles one way. I would say it is an easy hike and probably takes around an hour to get to the top. It was not so crowded. The sunset was so gorgeous - beautiful colors everywhere. We stayed till it got dark. The return hike was fun and in the dark, we had to rely on the moonlight to navigate most of it, but also used the phone flashlight at some areas. Also saw a big buck in the dark which was cool. Highly recommend doing this hike at sunset.

I really loved here! You can spend a complete perfect day, first hiking, the trail to the top of the mountain is easy if you are condition also thanks to the trees the weather is good, in the offices there are restrooms and drinking fountain and the parking is big, also there are little waterfalls and even a small “beach” of course I’ll come back. Remember: Do not litter and respect other people's space, bc that day there was a guy with a speaker making noise

Noelia B — Google review

Really nice and easy to get to mild waterfalls. I think the best one was hidden behind the "window". (if weather permits, definitely look there.Hidden falls was a super easy hike, 0.4 miles from parking lot. Window falls is 0.6 miles. It took us 1.5hrs to do both with hike and pictures. About half of the people came there with dogs and babies! We even saw a couple of (well behaved not crying) toddlers and people in their 60-70s.It helps if you are in shape, but even if you are not, you can still do it.

Lana D — Google review

Beautiful state park with a great campground that’s reasonably priced. Be careful of ticks right now if visiting the area. Had to get one off my husband just after getting in the car. So thankful I seen it!

Kylie B — Google review

Great hike to the peak on Hanging Rock Trail, with excellent views, and well maintained path. I'd say this was medium to hard just in terms of the incline, but otherwise it was well paved and easy to navigate! Will definitely be back. Hidden and Window Falls were quite small so would skip next time, especially with the incline (but well paved).

Dan L — Google review

We had a great time. Beautiful walk and strenuous coming back up, but it was worth it. Lots of places to sit, picnic and park. Many different trails. Beautiful views. Will be coming back for the 3 mile hike

Jess P — Google review

Really nice park with a variety of trails. Consider staying overnight nearby to visit the trails over a few day period (if you are a normal visitor and not an avid hiker). There is a short trail to a waterfall that you should consider visiting before taking on the hanging rock trail. The trail to hanging rock is challenging due to the significant change in elevations. The walk back is much easier for the same reason. Some young kids will not enjoy the walk. It is not stroller friendly due to the tree roots. Once at the top, the view makes the journey worth it. Keep kids and pets close, the drops are real. There is a restroom near the hanging rock trailhead. We can’t wait to come back and try out some of the other trails. Arrive early to beat the rush. We could not believe how busy it was when we got back from the trail. There is limited room at the top where the view is good.

Brandon W — Google review

Not too far from Greensboro, Hanging Rock is a beautiful place! Trails from easy to strenuous, allowed everyone in our group from 5 to 59 to enjoy the views and trails that fit every fitness level. The rock garden was the easiest walk, and provided a quick walk into the woods. The falls trail that is next to the short rock garden trail is listed as easy, but it does have a little bit of a hill that can take some energy to get back up for folks not in great hiking shape. We took our time, sipped some water, and made it back up just fine!Wonderful visitors center with a nice smallExhibit space, gift shop and a spacious deck where members of your party who don’t want to hike could sit and relax and enjoy some beautiful views.Weekdays are likely less crowded than the weekends. And as the weather gets nicer, the parking lot is definitely more filled on the weekend.

Hanging Rock State Park offers an unparalleled natural escape for outdoor enthusiasts and nature lovers alike. Families can enjoy picnicking by the lake or swimming in the clear waters, while adventurers can try their hand at rock climbing or rappelling down the cliffs. The park is well-maintained with clean facilities and clearly marked trails, making it accessible and enjoyable for visitors of all ages and fitness levels.

Yogananda T — Google review

This is a very busy state park. The Hanging Rock trail is about 1.3 miles one way with a bit of elevation gain. I'd say it's a moderate hike. The lower cascade falls is about 8 minutes away from the visitor center, and it's highly recommended for a cool touch to the spring water after an all-day hike. To truly experience the park though there are some other trails that we unfortunately didn't have enough time/energy to cover.

Khai M — Google review

Went on a weekday evening and the park wasn't crowded. Hiked to Wolf Rock. The trail is currently being improved but it doesn't affect the hike. The views from any summit at this park are beautiful. The rangers and staff are helpful and welcoming. The bathrooms are very clean. Overcrowded at times but highly recommend.

Danielle N — Google review

It's actually a pretty moderate climb if you take the main path. But if you want something challenging you can pass the first parking lot and go to the second and there's several trails going in different directions. It will definitely give you a workout but you can still work your way over to the hanging rock.

Ronald B — Google review

Made same day reservations for a car camping spot. Setup camp, then headed to the lake to cool off! Don’t forget to stop by the visitors center when you get there if traveling with little ones to pick up the Junior Ranger Adventure book!!

Mason — Google review

Stunning views from the top! Gorgeous views from below (Lower Cascade Falls)! This place was definitely the highlight of our trip! Be prepared for walking on an incline though . . . and bring along PLENTY of water. The hike up is approximately 1.8 miles on the new / rerouted trail . . . but it feels closer to 3. Lol Heading down to the Lower Falls is quick and easy . . . but coming back up the 110 stairs is a bit of a workout. We will DEFINITELY be visiting this State Park again whenever we return and/or pass through the area!

Mike G — Google review

Absolutely beautiful state park in Raleigh. We did the Moore's Wall Loop Trail which is a 4.6 mile loop. The state park describes it as a hard/difficult hike but I felt it was more moderate. The views are totally worth it. I'll definitely be back.

Muniba K — Google review

The best state park I have seen. This park has it all, great view if you can make it to the hanging rock. Check the forecast I went on a rainy, cloudy day I wouldn’t recommend that. Not very kid friendly if you have little ones that like to wonder or explore on a trail. I am referring to viewing the hanging rock. The waterfalls view is beautiful, plenty of trees, land, things to do. I look forward to going again. Great park to go to.

Johnny M — Google review

Very enjoyable family day! We grilled out hotdogs on one of the provided grills that could double as a fire pit. We sat at one of the picnic areas in the woods. A deer came within 10 feet of us to get an apple.Enjoyed the kayaking and swimming area. The guy that helps with the kayaks was super nice and very helpful!

Kerrie K — Google review

Beautiful scenery, rock formations and moderate hikes await those wanting to explore Hanging Rock state Park. Spacious camp sites are fairly inexpensive. Only one centrally located bathroom/bathhouse that could use a facelift. Staff does good job at keeping it mostly clean, but moldy ceiling and dated fixtures could use some work. Didn't visit for the shower set up, so all in all, had a wonderful time hiking and exploring the cliffs, the upper and lower Cascades as well 👍

Matt V — Google review

We enjoyed the hike. It's always interesting to read about the trails and gage the difficulty. We are not avid hikers. The trail to Hanging Rock was easy. One needs to consider the elevation though. We took our time and many breaks.

Jean F — Google review

The wife told me the restrooms were nice and the water from the tap cold near the visitor center. The new trail for hanging rock was really solid. Wide and easy to walk. It is a beautiful view at the top plenty of shade as well.

Jeremiah — Google review

Wednesdays and Thursdays are the best times to go because it’s less busy! I’ve been here many times and I still enjoy it. We saw lots of wildlife in the morning time 💜 we did the hanging rock trail of course and like others, it kicked our butts haha. All worth the views!Bath house bathrooms and Visitor center bathrooms were pristine. Employees are very sweet and informative!

The Guilford Courthouse National Military Park is a large, well-marked park in Greensboro, North Carolina that marks the site of a key Revolutionary War battle. The park features statues and exhibits commemorating the battle and the general who led Continental forces to victory. Visitors can spend time outdoors on walking tours or enjoying picnic areas.

I really enjoyed this park, the pathway goes all around back to where you entered. You can also bring your fur babies here for a nice stroll, learn some history, look forward to coming back here again.

Gary T — Google review

You don't have to be a history buff to enjoy it here. There is a 30 minute movie that was very interesting and easy for kids to understand. The museum was smaller than expected but we still enjoyed it. Unfortunately there are no benches in the museum or lobby while waiting to get into the theater, so it could be hard on someone who needs to sit often. There are walking and driving trails to see the monuments. A great place to get exercise and learn at the same time.

May B — Google review

It is the most excellent place to spend our Nations independence day. Due to the heat of the day, I didn't spend as much time walking around. Enjoyed the interpretative stations set up for the day.The visitor center has a lot of really cool artifacts recovered from the site.If you are interested in the southern campaign, Guilford Courthouse National Battlefield should be on your list.

M S — Google review

The museum inside the Visitor's Center is top notch! There are hundreds of Revolutionary artifacts that are beautifully displayed. There is also a short film with an animated map that provides details of Cornwallis and Greene. I highly recommend the Junior Ranger program for anyone with kids, as it included a kid-friendly activity book and swearing in to receive the badge. If you choose to walk the trails, bring bug spray! While the trails are clear, it's easy to imagine the guerrilla warfare through wooded forests.

“Your fee dollars at work!” sign next to some mulch. Yeah mulch looks nice and all but jeez Louise this place needs a serious clean. We happened to be close by for another event and decided to stop by to get our junior ranger badges and passport stamp. The ranger in the visitors center was extremely adamant about the movie they show every hour but that’s about it. We walked around and around several times to get answers for our girls jr ranger booklets and then we proceeded outside to the back of the center to monument row and it was deplorable. My oldest daughter (who’s only ten) made a comment about how sad it was. If they are so dedicated to preserving these sites then why aren’t the grave markers more legible? We always buy souvenirs and I’d really like to see that money go to a professional to tidy up all the monuments and markers. Everything is covered in dust and spider webs. 😞 we really did enjoy learning so many new things, I just hope over time this place gets more improvements.

Erica G — Google review

Well kept. Informative. Would have been 5 stairs if the visitor center would be open 8 days as not all have days off to match. Drive throughout or walk .it has many walkways for all.

Floyd B — Google review

We had a wonderful time here at the park! My wife’s 5th great grandfather was Captain James Tate (monument #3) he had perished outside of the park, but they interred him at his monument. He died in the Battle of Guilford Courthouse in the Revolutionary War! We walked the tour of monuments and were very impressed. The stories told and the National Park App that had audio for the tour was wonderful.

Debi J — Google review

We visited the park on Friday and Park Ranger Daniel Engelbau gave us an amazing tour. It elevated a battlefield tour to a history experience not just about the battlefield, but the experience of the people who lived during these times. Daniel talked about what stories get told and what else happened outside of the traditional stories. A great visit!

Excellent facility and helpful rangers! We loved how accessible everything is from walking to driving. Dog friendly (must be leashed) This beautiful historic site is well presented and easy to navigate. Plenty of shade and restrooms and facilities.

Tony Vanoy & I went for a 1.5 hr hike at Guilford Co Courthouse National Military Park in Greensboro NC on Saturday. It was a beautiful day so we went for a lovely walk to look at the monuments and flowers. We saw some wildlife and many dogs on leashes!!The park was free to enjoy! There was plenty of parking spots and restrooms. Inside the Visitors Center is a museum, some hands on display items to touch, a gift shop and 2 separate films to enjoy. A 10 min one and a 30 minute one to enjoy for free as well...Highly recommend visiting the park if you are in the area!!

I don't know if both of these places are connected, but these pictures are from the Greensboro science center/ zoo. The kids and I and my mom had a great time! Had a lot of nice animals to see as well as activities to do. It was a beautiful day and a lot of families were out. We will definitely be going back

Great little park near the heart of Greensboro. My son and I did the junior ranger badge and the related activities. Excellent way to explore and learn. Lots of history too. I suggest you visit the visitor’s center first.

Walter M — Google review

Been through town multiple times, never realized there was a National Park in town. Drive, walk, bike your way through the trail. What a beautiful park.

Adriana V — Google review

This historic park is unique. The paved trails are through the woods, with historic monuments and statues along the trail. We didn't get to explore the entire park because my girls were too tired from the other parks we visited prior to stopping here. There are a lot of people walking their dogs here, and I love that!! If I'm in the area, I will come back and explore the entire park. This is the best time of the year to visit. Since there are trees everywhere, the fall Foliage is beautiful!! If you are coming to this park, come in the Fall. I love seeing the colorful leaves fall and all over the ground. It's so beautiful.

Tilly L — Google review

Nice historic place, expected better though. The half an hour movie was nice.

Musavvir M — Google review

Very important place to American history. Interesting to see all of the different eras of preservation that the park or battlefield has gone through. The videos were well done and very informative. The staff was so happy, helpful, knowledgeable and friendly. The visitors center is a little older but still clean and kept up. If your going to do the walking trails I would say leave an entire day.

Bobby F — Google review

Nice park, pretty spaces, great place for a walk. I didn't do the full trail but the monuments I saw were well marked and everything was very clean.

Karl K — Google review

Wife and I have visited this park a couple times since arriving at Greensboro. Once for a simple walk, which this is a very nice park for. The second to attend the annual re-enactment. Something that has been a sort of bucket-list item since childhood. You know. One those things you read about and wanted to do throughout childhood. Well, 50 years later I was able to check it off.The re-enactment is quite an appreciable effort with a large field surrounded by woods to depict the battle and n excellent narration the history and events that unfolded to become a major turning point in the revolutionary War. Well worth the time and effort.

Jimmy S — Google review

Loved walking the trails, but more trail signage would be nice and the map you get at the Visitors Center isn’t very detailed. But, it was nice walking on the mostly paved trails and the benches are great if you have someone with mobility issues who needs a break. It is dog friendly, they just have to be on a leash. Our two dogs loved it and we saw lots of other visitors with dogs, everyone was respectful and had control of their dogs.We will be returning to enjoy some of the trails we didn’t get to today. Highly recommend a visit if you are a history fan, lots of monuments and facts about the pivotal battle that happened here during the Revolutionary War.

Thurston F — Google review

Beautiful historical place for family and kids to walk around and learn some historical information.

Bhakta K — Google review

I went and it was pretty and I love the revolution and it is very insightful and you can really see the terrain at some parts

The park had lots to see, the fall leaves were beautiful and there were many people walking the paths and taking in the views. I visited the visitor center to get a veteran pass before my family and I go on a cross-country trip to visit national parks. The visitor center was clean and organized, and the desk workers were polite and quick to finish up with pass. They gave me information on this national park while I waited, overall a very pleasant experience.

The Greensboro Science Center is a popular tourist destination with four sections including a museum, an aquarium, a zoo, and a theater. The museum has exhibits on reptiles and snakes, zoology, and the theater shows 3D movies.

Took my young kids here and they had a lot of fun. So much to do, we easily spent 7 hours here so make sure you leave yourself enough time to explore. There's a great playground and plenty of restrooms. The Cafe had great food and coffee

Kassandra S — Google review

We were in town for my older daughters event at UNCG, so my 10 year old son and I spent the day here. We had an amazing time! We made it through quickly, in case you're in a rush. But you could easily spend 6 hours here. We spent over 4! We got to enjoy 2 interactive events (Indiana Bones & the Theater). I've never been to a museum or zoo with so many active animals! All the stars from us!

Tiffany H — Google review

Loved it. I chaperoned for my daughter's school, and it was pretty easy to find everything with the map they give you at the front desk (I had to ask for it). All the exhibits were very well kept and all the animals were beautiful. Plenty of places for the kids to play, and/or sit down and rest. The gift shop was very nice too.

Peter T — Google review

The Greensboro Science Center is amazing! I had no idea Greensboro was hiding such a gem. First off, they have a tiger. Yes, a real, live tiger! Seeing it up close is like meeting a rock star, but with more stripes and a lot more roar. This place is huge and there's so much to do that you'll feel like a kid in a candy store—if the candy store had a tiger, an aquarium, and a museum rolled into one. Every corner you turn, there's something new and exciting to discover. It's like a never-ending adventure that keeps surprising you.The staff is friendly, the place is spotless, and the fun is nonstop. If you're in Greensboro, the Science Center is a must-visit. It's educational, thrilling, and just plain fun. Prepare to be amazed and entertained all day long! Don't forget to bring your walking shoes.

Luther K — Google review

They’ve made a lot of changes since our visit over a year ago go. It’s way more kid friendly too. The tree house playground was phenomenal and my picture doesn’t do it justice as it’s so much bigger with more areas to explore.

Charles J — Google review

The Science Center is a great place to take you kiddos!! There are interactive opportunities. The aquarium is wonderful and includes a sing ray tank, which allows the children to gently touch them. There is a butterfly garden with opportunities for some great pictures and learning about the beautiful varieties there. There is so much more!! You should allow yourself a minimum of 2hrs to enjoy it.

Lady S — Google review

Wow! Great place with lots and lots of things to do! A walkable zoo with a good variety of animals, an aquarium inside with AC 🥵 😂 a cool dinosaur room, and lots of places for kids to play! The tree house style play area was SO COOL for my kids (age 4) and me. There’s a few indoor play things as well that are very interactive and engaging. A pendulum that swings all day, illustrating the rotation of the Earth is in the middle of the main building. That seems like nothing but our whole party stopped and stared for a while. There a small cafe upstairs and lots of spots to eat downstairs. Plenty of bathrooms! There is a family room as well for nursing moms or families with really littles. There are sensory bags available for those with sensor processing difficulties and a sensory map that warns you of the different smells, sounds, etc around the facility. We did not get to do the friendly zoo area that I believe is like a petting zoo or the butterfly room. The butterfly room is closed until May 17. We just ran out of energy for the petting zoo.“This was even more fun than the zoo!” - quote from one of my kidsWe definitely will come back. This was a great time.

Sara F — Google review

Money well spent.... The tour of country Park with the science parallel gives way of conversation to explain that a lot of walking takes place at the science center. Sort of like it does at the park. Conditioning the children to get ready to perhaps go the next day and enjoy 😁

Joshua G — Google review

We absolutely loved it here! It was July and very hot though and it's quite a bit of outdoor walking so I wouldn't recommend going in the summer time like we did 🥵 And for the little ones I would definitely bring a stroller, my 4 year old got a little tired. But other than that it was absolutely amazing.... this place was fun for the whole family and lots to see and do, also very educational. I do recommend going early and staying all day though because we didn't have enough time to see and do all the things we wanted to from 2pm-5pm, it's just that big of a place with so many fun things to explore! Also definitely ask for a map at the front desk because that helped us a lot. No firearms and vapes aloud as well but I wish I would of known you can bring your own food and drink, next time I'll bring snacks and water because it's cheaper to bring your own. We'll definitely be going back though when it cools off 👍🏼

Absolutely must-visit place in Triad. This place is very interactive and family friendly. Lots of various animals and many spaces where family can take rest and enjoy picnics. The museum itself is well maintained and has lots of aspects that visitors can think about their lives and environment. We spent about 2 hours to explore the place but it seems that we need more time to fully be emerged in the exploration.

My husband and I took our grandson here on a Saturday. We all enjoyed ourselves and was something fun to do together and locally. The playground area and the paddle ride was his favorite.

Wow we came to this area of nc to goto the north carolina zoo, but this science center is just a good or better! The facility is very clean and there is so much to see and do. My kids had a great time. There is a tree house playground half way through that breaks up the visit and allows the kids to go wild for a bit. Food prices were reasonable, much much better than the zoos outrageous pricing. Staff were friendly and knowledgeable. Animals seemed well taken care of and my kids loved touching the sharks and sting Ray in the interactive pool. Honestly if the zoo didn't have the giraffe feeding and gorilla's, I would suggest this place over the zoo.

Louis D — Google review

A coworker recommended this place to me and I was not disappointed! I was surprised to see so much for less than $20. I saw animals that I never even heard of. There is so much to learn and explore here! The only thing I wish that could have been better was the viewing angles of certain animals. I would've liked to see more of the tiger. However, several animals managed to keep my attention throughout the day. I especially enjoyed the peacock, red pandas, and gibbons monkey. This place is highly recommended for nature, science and animal enthusiasts.

Had an absolute blast with my kids here! I was not expecting it to be so big! So cool it has an aquarium, zoo, museum, farm area, dinosaur area, tree houses play area! So many different things to do in one shot! We all had such a great time and will be returning again

Awesome plus so much more! Seen a lot of hands-on stuff for kids. Although it was just me and my wife. Love the aquarium stuff and getting to pet the stingrays. If you get a chance check out the theater attractions you won't be disappointed. Didn't get a chance to check out the zoo outside or the carousel cuz it was raining. Everything was very nice everyone that worked there was very polite and respectful. Everything was nice and clean. Everyone was also very helpful at answering any questions that we had pertaining to the exhibits. It's worth every penny. I really recommend this as a spot to check out we had an awesome time there can't wait to go again

We were very impressed with the layout, content and the people. Our visiting 9 y.o. grand daughter especially liked the hands-on items, including the sting rays. It was hot, but most of the animals were out. We spent several hours there and will definitely go again.

Nice small science center, mini zoo type of attraction. It was almost 100° so we didn't get to enjoy seeing the outside animals, we walked out there but other than meerkat nothing else was out. There were so many people and it was so loud there. We were able to see everything in an hour.

This place is truly a gem, blending a science museum, aquarium, and zoo all into one destination, making it perfect for families, couples, or solo visitors alike.Exhibits:The exhibits inside the science museum are incredibly engaging, with interactive displays that cover everything from space exploration to biology. I loved how hands-on many of the displays were – it makes learning fun and memorable for kids and adults alike. The "SciPlay Bay" is perfect for younger children, and the "Create Zone" is great for older kids interested in STEM activities.Aquarium:The aquarium section is surprisingly extensive for a science center. It includes a stunning variety of marine life, from playful otters and majestic sharks to vibrant tropical fish. The underwater viewing tunnel is a highlight – walking through and seeing sharks and rays swim above you is breathtaking! The penguin exhibit is another must-see – they're adorable and incredibly active!Zoo:The zoo is the perfect complement to the indoor exhibits, featuring animals from all around the world. The lemur exhibit is especially fun, and I was impressed by the well-maintained habitats. The staff clearly care for the animals and were very informative when answering questions. They also have a large playground outside, making it a great place for families to take a break and let the kids run around. The SkyWild Ropes Course:For the adventurous, the SkyWild Ropes Course was a thrilling addition to our visit. It's a well-constructed course that allows you to test your balance and agility while getting a unique view of the zoo beneath you. It’s a great challenge and worth the extra fee if you’re looking for something active to do.Other Highlights:The OmniSphere Theater is another impressive feature, offering planetarium shows and 3D films. It’s an immersive experience that really brings science to life, and the visuals are stunning.Staff and Amenities:The staff here are fantastic. They are friendly, knowledgeable, and really make an effort to engage with visitors. The center is very clean, and the layout makes it easy to explore all the different areas without feeling crowded. There are plenty of benches and rest areas, and the café offers a decent selection of snacks and meals at reasonable prices. Parking was also easy to find and free.Overall Experience:The Greensboro Science Center offers something for everyone. Whether you're interested in marine life, outer space, or exotic animals, you’ll find plenty to enjoy here. The combination of zoo, aquarium, and museum makes it an excellent value for the price of admission. I highly recommend planning to spend at least 3-4 hours here to fully experience all it has to offer!

Omg this place was wonderful! It's huge and so much more than a science center. There is an aquarium and a mini petting zoo. There is a place for the kiddos to play in tree houses that connect and also a small amount of zoo animals. They have a café as well. The kids loved every bit.

We stopped here while traveling on a 12 day road trip with our 12-year-old granddaughter and we are so glad that we did! This is a great place to bring kids of all ages. It’s an aquarium, zoo, and science museum in one place! Ticket prices are $21 for ages 14 and up and $20 for children 3-13. They also have lower rates for families on the SNAP, EBT, WIC. $7 for adults and $6 for children. It is also completely wheelchair accessible. They even have a fun little treehouse area that is wheelchair friendly! Everything is beautifully maintained, the animals are well taken care of, and there are guides everywhere to answer questions. They even have an area set up where you can watch surgeries and autopsies on the animals while they are happening. They also have a fantastic butterfly area and other areas for kids to learn, do puzzles, etc. the little restaurant has food and drink options and it’s actually affordable to get a bite to eat there. Overall, this is a fantastic stop and I love that they try and make it affordable for all families.

NASCAR Sprint Cup Series raceway with a .526-mile paperclip-shaped track, the circuit's shortest.

Check Martinsville off the bucket list. Me and the girlfriend seen the Spring Sprint Cup race. Plenty of good times to be had here. Highly recommended for anybody wanting to see some short track racing.

It is a great short race track. It is a concrete and asphalt track. Good racing. The food prices are not bad. They have great red hot dogs. There is not a bad seat anywhere. They take care of the handicap people. They have lots of golf carts to help take you from place to place.

This is an awesome track to watch a race at in my opinion. Some people (online) were complaining about this race but I was ok with it, I guess my palate isn't as refined as theirs, LOL.I've been to several tracks and this is probably the closest I have ever been able to get to the drivers. Most of them were very gracious about pictures and autographs. I drive 5 hours to watch a race at this track and I'd do it again in a heartbeat.

Martinsville has been a favorite track because it gives consistently exciting racing. The hospitality is excellent with opportunities to engage in pre-race experiences and events over the weekend. People are generally very friendly and well behaved here. You are free to bring a cooler and food if you want, but the opportunities to indulge in beverages and food are there also. I recommend the hot dog. A word about the seating: if you sit above about row 15 you have a good view of the entire track so there aren't any really bad seats. I do advise you to buy early for the best selection and be careful about third party resellers who charge big fees even when the low-fee speedway ticket site has good seats available. You should do some research on available parking options, consider park and ride services, and arrive 3 hours before start or more to ensure free close in parking but the paid options benefit local organizations and are generally $20 or less. Martinsville is an easy 2 hour drive from Raleigh or Charlotte NC and a great day or weekend adventure.

Had a blast. The race track is, of course, an older one, but there are no bad seats. Entry into the track was the only issue. Seemed like a single file like and the other entrances other than the main should have been figured out better.

We have never seen a race but my partner and I play Nascar all the time, this was on our way back from Virginia and we stopped and we have never been as in love with a slab of concrete until now. The history and passion here are clear. It's somehow very quiet and well worth the wait, hopefully we can come back for a race. This track was already our favorite, and this was already a track we raced on a bunch but even more so now.

Never been to a actual NASCAR track but this blew my mind away. Absolutely loved it. Definitely recommend.

I have no words to describe this awesome experience that I had at your track. It was my first time and I hope to be back in the future!! Thank you so very much ❤️

Very short, but extremely atmospheric race track.Tickets should already be purchased online, but thanks to the really good organization there are no problems at the entrance. We would love to come again

Jörg W — Google review

We had the track all to ourselves. One of the staff told us to wander at our leisure since nothing was happening at the track today. It also means that I don't know if there is a tore, or if they do tours. Either way, we enjoyed our visit to the 'Paper Clip'. Thank you!!

One of the best tracks to watch NASCAR. Seating is typical, bathrooms are nice, food was simple and good. Parking is not bad but leaving can take a long time. Staff were all helpful and friendly, I cant wait for the new grass area to be finished.

JC O — Google review

What a great track!!!! For some reason the employees here are WAY more pleasant to deal with. Like they ACTUALLY love being at the track on race day. You NEVER find that at the bigger tracks on the circuit. Definitely returning.

This would be a 5 star experience, but taking almost 2 hours just getting out of the parking lot was horrible. This is the 11th track that I've been to and by far, the worst leaving. I guess it being such a small track, it was pretty limited on the food and drink selection. Ok, ok....other than that, the grandstand ticket and infield pass cost were very reasonable, along with the prices for food and drinks. I had the famous Martinsville "All the way" dog (actually had more than one) and that is a must do!!! Overall it was a very good experience and it was cool to see a race at such a historic track.

Brian M — Google review

Always a great experience at Martinsville Raceway. The hotdog vendors need to develop a better process so that we don't wait on line for an hour. Also, we waited over an hour to get out of the parking lot. Need a better system. Otherwise, a great day.

Been following NASCAR for a while, went here for the xfinity 500. Had a fun time! Smaller track, seated in tower B great view! Clean facilities, great environment and energy! Only down side is if you park in the parking lot and stay to the end of race it took us (no exaggeration): 1 and a half hours to just exit the parking lot. Usually takes a while like always but this place had very little direction, nobody was moving, it was insane.

Nikki — Google review

Good racing at Martinsville for sure, but it’s not my favorite track to go to. The last NASCAR race we attended there (Fall 2023) seemed like a cluster you know what. The track is difficult to get to and getting to/from the track just doesn’t seem to flow in any orderly fashion. Parking is terrible, especially for those with mobility issues. The line just to get inside the gate is chaotic and unorganized. I love the racing at this track, just not the layout for those attending. That’s just my experience and even though we had a great time, I doubt I’ll go to this track again.

Rush R — Google review

Great track parking a little hassle to get out we parked outside thinking be quicker no way they held traffic somewhere we waited 20 minutes yet no one was going anywhere.

We brought our family of four here on our way back from spring break. As far as getting into and out of the track during a NASCAR event (truck and Xfinity series), we had no issues. Staff was friendly, parking was free, and hotdogs were a hit! It was our son's favorite part of spring break!

CJ M — Google review

Yes! Great time here. Wear ear protection for the race! Staff very friendly. Great seats. Lemonade and hot dogs were very tasty.

Reagan W — Google review

Had the best time here over the weekend. The place was clean and managed very well that day. We was able to take our own soft coolers in with snacks and beer. Very good hot dogs!

Jennifer B — Google review

I enjoyed the atmosphere and freedoms provided here. The track is one of the smaller ones. Thank you for the seat backs. This is way better than no back.

Dylan D — Google review

Parking was great getting in. Leave it was disaster. There were also no places to sit and eat inside the race. That did make difficult with a child.Race was great! Otherwise either was good

Megan M — Google review

First race in about 10 or 15 years. Affordable tickets, general admission so we could sit where we wanted. Shorter than cup race is good for old farts like me and kids too. Easy in and out. It was an exciting race too. Well worth a day off from work. Great race, great day.

Parking was easy, they get you parked fast and efficiently. The raceway employees were awesome, very helpful and friendly. Just ask if you have problems and they will take care of you. Bring stadium pads for bench seating. I had a great time at the Richmond NASCAR race 3/31-2024.

Our first at this track and my dad's first race. Staff we encountered was amazing. Really made his first race special. I wish the fan zone had more booths to visit but what they had was awesome. I tried the hotdogs. Pretty good but with all the hype around the "hotdog' I thought it would have been better. But hey....$2.00. You can't beat that at the race track. So....i recommend you get the hotdog.

Percilla W — Google review

While passing through I took the opportunity to just see if I could get close enough to see the track. The facility was not closed off and you can drive about 30 feet from the track. It was empty so I had the opportunity to take a few pics! You are closer here than it seems possible. Johnson fan! Go 48!!Roll Tide 🐘 🐘 🐘
